Rear Bumper Reflector Removal

Featured Replies

Hi guys first post in here been floating about for a while, just a quick question does anybody know how to remove the rear reflectors from a vrs rear bumper?

I'm looking to smoke them with some lamin-x to go with my black on black theme.

I think the solution is either remove the bumper and unclip them from behind, or smash them off and refit with replacements. That's according to other peoples' experiences though, not mine.

The answer given by Harry was the answer that I got from him and a few others when I was looking to remove them to do a deep clean, I didn't bother in the end :D

Here you go

Ok thanks guys I might have a go at doing them still fitted then, as they slightly recessed shouldn't be as important to wrap round the edges.

You have to get under bumper so your hand can access the clips from inside.

On the muffler side you can see the clips, on other side I think only removing the small cover on bumper (extra tip) you will reach the clips

A word of caution for you...

If you do laminex them, or coat them with anything else, make sure they still reflect light as they should.

It's an MOT failure and against C & U regs if it doesn't.

It could cost you £30 fixed penalty too.

I'd say don't touch the rear reflectors.

If you break down with a flat battery/electrical issues, they'll let a car see you well before they would otherwise.

That's could be the difference between nothing happening and a nasty crash/potential for death.

That all depends on what year the vRS is.

The pre-facelift gets reflectors in the rear light clusters too.

Therefore you can do what you want with the ones in the bumper.

I was thinking about the FL, but yes the pre-FL has the lights with the reflectors in them too.

Mine is pre-fl thinking about lamin-x on the rear lights too but maybe just a section of them.

Here´s my laminated refletors and 3º stop

I have had them darkened, wrapped still reflected but took all off after seeing Auric Goldfingers on motorway reflected from quarter of a mile away , they look cool but block too much light. Mine ( before lowered) 2012-03-19131619.jpg

I know this is an old topic but I have a cracked rear reflector which needs replacing. Got the part but want to know how the old one is "smashed" off? Just a good aim with a sledgehammer? :)

Looking at the locators on the bumper I'd be wedging something under one end of the reflector (screwdriver wrapped in a cloth) to lever one end out just enough to get my fingers behind it, then gently pull!

Ok cheers! Doesn't sound as fun as a sledgehammer though! :)

Don't use a screwdriver use trim removal tools . A pack of six in various sides is only six pounds put in at one end about an inch in and lever out , but the old ones will break . Mask off with duck tape to protect the paint if you slip .

You have access from under bumper, just need to take off small tray.
