iPhone 5 and MDI - Does it work with apple adaptor..?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

It's upgrade time - Question is - i currently us an iPhone 4s and connect it to my Superb using the MDI and an iPod adaptor.

So, will the new iPhone 5 with Lightening adaptor, work with the MDI?

Some sites i search say yes, others say no - it's all very confusing!

Thanks in Advance - Al.

I was just about to ask the same thing, I have an iPhone 5 now but couldn't find a converter at the time so it would be interesting to know. If I find a converter ill try it and let you know.

Any update on this chaps as i am about to upgrade to a 5....

My mdi works fine with ip5 but ONLY with the genuine apple adapter, the eBay specials charge but NO audio.

Same here, bought the apple adapter and my iphone5 works fine with MDI.

So, expanding on this slightly: if you use an official "old to new" adapter for the iPhone, functionality and charging are retained? Duvet Thief's got an Alpine 103BT in her car and "upgraded" to iPhone 5 and has had trouble getting it work work properly with the head unit. It will charge, but not play.

Well i took the cheap option (as normal) and splashed a whole £2.99 on the new style adapter on ebay that allegedly works with audio as well.

Guess what.............. it does not work via MDI.......but does charge

Strangely it does work with my LG mini hifi though.

I will just have to buy a proper adapter now...  :notme:

Purchased proper Apple adapter and it all works now....Yay!

Vag have a lead out now that one end connects to the mdi and the other end fits into the iPhone 5, full compatibility , charging etc...... Apologies if this has been covered before....
