Day 5 of ownership - double button open hell

Featured Replies

Love the car but seriously if I have to have a bust up with the mrs every morning when trying to get the car open... Aggggghhhhhhh

Need to find somebody with that vagisill or whatever it's called lol

its ajustable in Maxidot

Check it out

Yep do it maxi dot. Changed mine on day 2!

Not sure I get the problem, you hit the button twice to unlock all doors. It's a good security feature.

Disabled this on mine on day 2 also. I hardly see how its a good security feature TBH. If you unlock the door and only the drivers door opens a determined car jacker is hardly going to be flumexed because the passengers door doesnt open. I guarantee he can run round and grab you at your side before you can react quickly enough to get in and manually lock the doors. Its just a big pain in the bum. I did enable auto locking though which i think is good as it stops theives opening back doord etc while sitting at traffic lights etc.

If you think its a good security feature having to double click then leave it on but for me if there were un desirables in the vicinity of my car or lurking about i wouldnt open it or would wait untill they had gone. If a hardened theif with a weapon wants you car then double blip unlocking wont stop him trust me.

Cue all the chuck norris types who would merely smash their faces in. Id like to see anyone try and fend off an attack while sat in your seat while the attacker is standing outside besdie you with a knife.

If carjacking is a serious problem where you live then im sorry - i would move.

It's a rubbish feature, it's just a bit slow if you press it fast in succession it don't open..

It's not intended as a means by which to fully prevent car jacking but it should be considered a risk mitigation measure. It's useful if you don't have your doors configured to auto lock when you drive off as it ensures your other doors remain locked so only your drivers door is unlocked. I don't live in an area where car jacking is considered a high risk but that's not to say I won't ever go anywhere where it is. For me, it's a useful precautionary measure and worth the very minor inconvenience of having to press the button twice on the occassions I want to unlock all the doors. Like most things, it's personal choice.

It's horses for courses. I quite like the double unlock feature (as does the wife) as the only door that unlocks is the drivers door which is ideal when it is just her in the car. That said, the auto-lock when pulling away never fails to annoy the bejesus out of me!

A proper *******s of an arrangment, and def NOT applicable to peaceful rural Northern Ireland.

I was somewhat ****ed that the salesman did not ask our opinion or explain our options, all he wanted was for us to fill in the customer satisfaction surveys and **** off.

Very surprised as he was supposedly a very reputable decent older lifetime experience salesperson.

Who did not understand the product he was selling, certainly vis-a-vis the benefits of Maxidot, which he talked me out of!!, when I enquired about the functionality theroff.

We, of course, took our car to the Czech Republic to get this matter resolved along with the first service.

cheers

Can the beep on the new octavia's be disabled?

Can the beep on the new octavia's be disabled?

Yes, but you are going to hate me for saying it.... via maxidot!

I think it is the ATA confirm option on Maxidot.

You went from Ireland to the czech republic to solve a simple issue and get a service? EH. Am i missing something here?

Alarm confirmation can be disabled either in Maxidot or by coding change in VCDS.

Any excuse for a holiday. :)

We have the double clicky thing on the Yeti and the Octy.

I have no problem with it on either but the wife, coming from an '06 fabia, where the double click had to be done quick, can't get her head round the fact that on the new cars you have to press once, wait for the blip blip of the alarm, then press again.

I guess if she might get the hang of it eventually.

Jus before we change cars again, I bet :p

Cheers chaps! Will look through the maxidot options. Not had a proper play for fear of buggering something up!

Feel like im missing out on this maxi dot business :wall:

I felt like that when I didn't have it - all these options you can change retc and I couldn't understand why anyone would spec a car without this relatively cheap option (mine was ex demo)

Now I have it and I have to admit, once the settings are set to your liking there's not much point plating with them. I find it most useful now for the additional explanation on warnings etc (I.e. which bulb is out rather than just a light) or for controlling the audio playing on the SD card. Plus it looks slightly nicer than a blank panel like I had before.....

In short, it's a nicety but not perhaps as important as I thought it was

I'm very curious. How did you resolve this in Czechland. Did you threaten them with a German takeover - doh, that has already happened! Seriously though, did you arrange this thru Skoda or with a friendly Czech dealer.

You are.

I think its a good feature, you need to teach your passengers the correct proceedure!

Having in the past someone try to jump in my passenger seat to escape following stabbing someone I shell be keeping this feature.

Just ask if anyone near you has Vag com, they will sort it for you, they will even turn off the seat belt warning, and the double pull central locking that comes on when you move to get out of the car, and turn on the other fog light

Anybody with VAG com in hertfordshire - near hertford??
