Security Problem? Please help / confirm / deny

Hi everyone. I've been meaning to post a lot earlier than this and say hello to this excellent community - unfortunately the first post I make is this one. Last night my Octavia vRS estate (2011) was broken into - the odd thing is no windows were broken and when I returned to the vehicle the really strange thing is that the Rear Offside door was unlocked - I still have the two stage locking / unlocking enabled. To further add to this is could not have been opened from the inside as I have the child locks enabled on both rear doors. Both doors on the nearside were locked. I think the thief knew the inside layout of the car as items were taken from the 'concealed' compartments overhead and beside the driver, as well as the parcel blind being removed from the rear seats and pushed back. The list of items stolen is minimal but I really would like to know if any one has experienced any door not locking correctly and under what circumstances. All of the doors were definitely fully closed and the vehicle was locked before I left it. I look forward to your responses and seeing some of you about on the road. Many thanks in advance for any responses you give.

Some of us have had windows open due to sitting on keys etc but that would open all 4 windows and you'd still have the problem of opening the door with the child locks on.

I had a door lock solenoid break on a previous car and that meant that the door wouldn't lock using the central locking, haven't heard of anything like that on an octy but it must be possible.

Also have heard of door lock signals been intercepted but it's always been a proof of concept thing and not recently either.

if the door lock signals had been jammed then all the doors would have been unlocked.

how are you locking your car, a double press on the lock button disables the alarm and the deadlocking so getting in becomes a lot easiter.

lol whoops I never checked I just assumed double press of locking deadlocked and alarmed so I never bother with that.

No visible damage to the car at all then ? I guess that is the silver lining in the situation.

Can you duplicate the fault? What happens now if you click or double click the alarm fob? Do all the doors lock?

Hmmm, for what it's worth, I currently run a Mondeo MkIII ST TDCI - to be changed tomorrow for my Octvaia vRS.......Anyway ,about 4 months ago, after owning the car for 5 years, my significant other opened that rear pasenger side door, before I unlocked the car! All the other doors were locked....

I have no idea how long the car had been like this, as I'd never really tried any of the doors whlist it was locked - to my knowledge. I assume that the solenoid (which had to be replaced had failed), but, I had never checked them as far as I know ,and I'm not sure whether or not this gets checked at services.....

I will be checking the new car regularly though ,as it never occurred to me to do this before!!!

Sorry to hear you got broken into and stuff stolen!

Only time that ever happened to me was 22 years ago....smashed the window (my first car was an Escort....should've been easier to get into than breaking the window), rifled through all my stuff, and didn't take a thing.....I felt cheap and violated....the even left my watch......they could only have added insult to injury by leaving me money......

It was a Ford I had the problem on too. Could have been like that for months for all I knew.

This is the problem on modern cars without a visible door lock "button" - unless you physically check each door after you have locked it, you don't know that they are all definitaly locked or if one of the solenoids has failed.

As well as the Octy I've also got an old Discovery - thankfully it has the old fashioned buttons on top of the doors to see if it's secure as it's anyones guess which doors will lock/unlock when the button on the keyfob is pressed!

My 04 plate Leon did this. The door mech would fail. It was quite a common problem on VAG cars. Hopefully it's sorted on the newer ones though.

This is normally mitigated by the fact that - as long as the car detects one of its doors isn't locked properly - the hazard lights won't flash when you hit the lock button on the keyfob. So every time I lock my car I check to make sure the hazards flash.

My hazards always flashed, even once I knew the door wasn't locking, plus I heard the clunking of the doors locking, and then on the second press the deadlocks activating.....I just didn't realise it was only clunking on 3 of the doors..... Guess mine didn't detect the door wasn't locking!

Thanks to everyone for posting - and so quick too! I'm going to check out a few different possibilities to see if I can replicate it - I'll report back if I find anything. Still waiting for CSI: Nottingham to turn up, very little point imho though :( Dealership were 'helpful' telling me that they know of no Skoda Octavia from them in the past two years that has had its security breached by anything other than smashing a window. At least I have no damage to the vehicle - a blessing I guess.
