Oh no first day of frost and its on the inside :-(

Featured Replies

I've noticed this the last two years with my MK1 octy. Brill in the summer and as soon as it gets cold, condensation gets the better of it :( it really annoys me as you have to have the car running for a good 5 mins before it clears, and mine being a diesel takes a while to warm up...it annoys me that much i've bought a 1litre petrol pug 106 to get my through the winter, and the fact if worst does come to worst and the 106 ends up in a hedge then it isn't my trusty skud.

Do those pollen filters help at all diesel owners (mk1 if it makes any difference) I'll have to give my octy a real good going over, making sure there's no damp to be found, only thing I can think of is getting in & out with wet shoes...oh well, roll on a winter in a peugeot!

My god, this morning I couldn't even open the boot it was that frozen - anyway inside was iced up like a good one too.....

Possibly the worse car I've had for this and it's my only bad point of the car

is that simply a matter of rubbing vaseline or that stuff on the seals?

yeh all doors and boot lid open get an old work microfibre and rub some vaseline over all the rubber seals, use it sparingly though you dont want big clumps of vaseline all over the place, it stops the seals freezing together, if your other half asks what the vaseline is for... just say "the seals" lol.

Lol

I might give that a go on mine

When I replaced the pollen filter, the condensation inside got worse!

What I have found makes some difference is turning the air blower motor to '0' (off) upon parking at the end of the day.

Doesn't always stop the condensation, but has helped reduce it.

I do this too.

Although the 'Off Button' mod is a real bonus rather than having to wind the fan speed down to knock off the Climatronic.

No 'off' button on a poverty spec Ambiente without climatronic!

These are great for helping to reduce damp on the inside... you can position it anywhere... I use one in my car and one in my boat... works a treat for both.

Interestingly, i was looking on the other 'Damp' thread, and all those that say the thread is BS live in the South-East... A much drier area than the North. I was born and brought up in Sussex/Surrey and while it did get quite cold at times, in general the air stayed dry.

I'm sorry to say that since moving to the West Coast of Scotland it isn't the case here! :(

I never thought of doing this - Would pressing the re-cycle button just before switching off work too by closing the ducts to outside air?

Might possibly help. Try it...

Picture the scene.... Icy morning, start the engine, put the screen demister on full, scrape the ice off the outside of all the windows and then spend a further 10 minutes removing the ice from the inside of the car - Not happy!!

Phoned the dealership and said that if the car I have on order mists up as bad as this one, I don't want it.

Salesman said "Shouldn't do that" - yeah we all know what salesman are like :giggle: (apologies for any on here!), "bring it in and we will take a look at it and sort it for you!"

Car in next Monday - will report back any findings.

In my experience if you know it's going to be icy the best thing you can do is put a big sheet of cardboard across the windscreen overnight. Stops any ice on the outside and insulates the screen well enough to prevent any build-up on the inside too.

Only problem is if the weather decides to change in the middle of the night and chucks it down instead! Then you're left peeling bits of it off the screen in the morning.

Oh you guys make me feel much better - it's the only negative of my 60 reg Octy L&K for the last 2 years. Glad I'm not alone.

New problem - I found a mobile swimming pool in spare wheel well yesterday (coming in through grommet for park sensors).

Another joy.

BTW - I have found that if the windscreen is clear on a cool day when I get in, I turn off the Climate and open the window. Otherwise the fan blows moist air onto the windscreen and I have to stop for it to clear.
