Oh no first day of frost and its on the inside :-(

Featured Replies

To be fair in my long list of cars can only remember my Clio Williams which didn't freeze up on the inside, thought the VrS wouldn't as its a modern car.

Am I alone in this lol

I find that as long as I don't use the aircon then I can go through the whole winter unaffected by this. On a long journey I switch the aircon on for part of it but then off before my destination to let it all dry out again before I get out of the car.

Below 4c and the aircon is disabled automatically anyway to prevent it freezing up. My old Octavia MK2 never used to freeze on the inside, the only time I have ever had a car do this was when the interior was damp from a leak onto the carpet.

Maybe your cabin filter needs changing?

where are the cabin filter situated?

where are the cabin filter situated?

In the passenger side footwell, under the Glove Box , you will find 2 little screws about 12" apart, undo them and pull down the cover and the filter housing is under there

Hope that helps

Nope, in fact the octavia is the only car that hasn't done this. Also it doesn't mist up. The 500 on the other hand mists up as soon as you look at it!

The first winter my car also misted easily. This went away the second year.

thanks guys will change - best place to buy a cabin filter?

Dealership or eurocarparts, use service30 in the discout field

Mine does this all the time at this time of year, whether I use the air con or not, my cabin filter is dry, my carpets are dry, my door cards do not leak (check under the rubber at base of door) no water there. My boot is dry, but the car still does this quite badly sometimes.

I also have those moisture absorbing bags in the car, and it still does it. I do not leave anything wet in the car nor do I travel with damp clothes etc.

I am at a loss, apart from that I love the car.

Any other avenues of moisture entry suggestions welcome...

Mine is the same, so much condensation on the rear screen i can't see out unless i wipe it, yet there appears to be no water ingress at all, also have two condensation bean bag things in.

My Mk2 Octavia does this also. The reason mine does is it because air is getting into the cabin from outside. The octavia is notorious for the seal around the rear quarter light/window breaking. Mine has such a small split I can’t even see it, I know it’s there because at 80ish mph you can hear the air getting in.

I have always assumed that is why it freezes up.

Cost of replacement is far too high; I cure the problem with a scraper and some gloves.

On your next drive put the AC on and set the intake to recycle, this uses the AC as a de-humidifier.

Interesting. Does this work when the AC is inhibited because of low air temp?

I have the misting problem, and have checked filters etc and am now just living with it.

In an old thread I posted pictures of the demist action on my old Discovery and the Octy taken on the same day. Te Disco demists evenly across the screen, the Octy seems to do the passenger side first.

Tons and tons of these threads on here.

A quick search will reveal plenty of related threads.

They always start again around this time of year as the temperatures drop.

The Octavia is a damp-by-design car.

In addition to this it has its fair share of water ingress issues... washer pipes, scuttle trays, door seals etc.

my does the same once it turns cold, it's a common feature on golf mk5s as well so it's not just the Octavia that are affected.

My mrs is going to kill me, one of the more important things for the new car was to avoid the dreaded ice on the inside... I'VE FAILED. Lol

This thread has reminded me I meant to change my pollen filter as it helped prevent fogging up on my last car.

Just ordered a genuine charcoal filter on eBay for £9.50 delivered - 5 remaining http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300798960430

Cheers,

Pete

I went through this rigmarole last year. Condensation so bad it was running down the inside of the glass. One morning it could be real bad, the next it could be clear as a bell.

I followed all the threads on here, changing the pollen filter, cleaning the inside of the glass to within a inch of its life, checking the mats, carpets, door seals, spare wheel well, boot seal, carpet area behind the multichanger, around the bulkhead, washer pipes, blocked scuttle tray - you name it I looked for it!

I also used those 'moisture absorbing gel sacks' which did help a little.

I even tried driving the car to work for an hour and a half on full heat and full fan to try to warm up the interior, occasionally opening the window to let out any moisture (and to breath!) to no avail.

There is only ever me in the car so no wet shoes, coats, push chairs, dogs etc. The A/C is ice cold in the summer so working well.

And the car still mists up. Now I've had my fair share of cars over the years and yes they all mist up to varying degrees, but after 30 seconds of A/C or a nicely warmed interior it clears. Not in either of my Octavia's.

Hence my damp-by-design comment. Excessive moisture is entering the car somewhere and I can only assume that it is down to the cars design.

I've had 5 octavias and never experienced that. In the winter getting in and breathing would cause freezing on the inside (but really only below minus 5 or so) but the heater sorted it out once warmed up.

Mine is terrible, again done checks for water ingress etc. Only thing I don't like about my car to be honest
