Boost leak on load?

Featured Replies

Hi!

I've done a topic like this before but want to try kick it into action again after using my Fab VRS as a bus yesterday!

With only a small load in my car (3 persons) (and sometimes me when I've eaten a large meal lol) there is on occasion a LOT of hiss on boost..actually more whistle than hiss but it is abnormal..Nothing like I ever hear on any other TDi engine'd car and more importantly..not on other VRs'.

Last time I posted I shrugged it off as normal but it clearly is an issue as there is a very slight loss of boost power and its only when the car is on a heavy load and thus under a lot more pressure.

I've had all the boost pipes off and everything appears secure..just wondering really if anyone can advise me..what's next?!

Anyone on here from Ipswich/Suffolk able to give me a hand diagnosing?

I am doing my best to try get a recording but it doesn't happen all the time and so far my recording in the engine bay has come up with a standard boost sound only!!!

Any news on this ?

get your system smoke tested

I'm in Colchester if you want me to have a look, I had a similar problem and have been advised to change the seals in the boost pipe joins. I have them just haven't done it yet.

My wifes A3 130 is the same as the fabia VRS. Upper intercooler pipes either side of the pancake pipe are whats wrong. I have them to do on the A3, top one looks easy, the short lower one looks like a PITA to me, but hey ho.

Hey Sharpyy, Colchester here too... ish

It's fairly easy with the bumper off, it's a Sunday job for when the better weather gets here!

Hey whitep, hope to see you around!

At the moment I am the one with the bonnet up at the side of the road a lot! :-(

Comes with the territory of mods! I have access to a workshop if you need any help

Hi,

Just realised people have posted on my post! I've got hold of a compressor and I'm going to do a boost check to hopefully find the leak within the next couple of weeks.

If I don't find anything I'll post again and then maybe I can help other people out with my compressor and test kit..!

Did you find anything?

Ah yes to update! ( couldn't find this post!)

after testing with the bumper off I found it to be the bottom boost pipe.

You can only tell by putting a good 18psi in the system and it's a quiet hiss which gets worse if you jiggle the pipe.

replaced pipe at the hefty sum of 100 quid for six inches of rubber and it's 90 percent gone!

I suspect the last whoosh noise I get is from the coupler on the turbo and this is rare now and only happens if you really thrash the car.
