and now you have got me after a pre-facelift, fitted with some BBS CH's. So thanks for that. ;):)

I seriously considered this one too, 57plate, 40k? sunglasses required?

Very good spec though. I was worried I'd get challenged a lot on the road in such

a striking car. Idiot magnet, you know what I mean...

But still it really caught my eye and I liked it but in the end I was forced by Mrs grrs

investment logic to search out a post facelift model. In my case black wasn't a deliberate

choice, just one of a choice of about 5 of the available colours I liked.

I even tried to argue that the facelift ones have a business card holder

instead of a cup holder like the older one (also with the better looking imo twin headlights)

but it still didn't swing it.. That's another rubbish thing about the newer ones.

Still, mine should look a bit more aggro soon with a few styling tweaks.

This weekend I'm fitting my pedal cover now as the the nicer fixings have arrived,

k and n, new tax holder lol, Brand new bosch wipers all round, screenwash purge and

renewal with my favourite brand in winter concentration 50/50 and trying an experiment

with the rear lights. I also have a washer jet to unblock.. How can I tell if they are

heated? They aren't fan type like on the Fabia either. There are 3 single jets either side.

On one of them one of the singles doesn't squirt so will attempt to unblock

Also ordered plug and play led panel lamps for the rear numberplate today, they are made

to replace OE lens and bulb assembly and screw inplace of originals. At £23 for the pair

I hope they are good and white. The current dull yellow looks wrong on a car with such

a bright white front view. Same with the interior, If I have the right size 'in stock' then I'll also

swap out the interior lamps with leds if I have the time. Pics when I'm done.

Lil' update.

K and N panel filter fitted, interior lights LED'd,

New Bosch wiper blades all round, winter strength screenwash full.

Front screen aquapel'd. On a job at the mo so haven't had much time.

Took the rear lights out to tint them but ballsed it up and ruined my vinyl.

Could have done with an assistant really, I'll order more and try again.

Needed a drill and angle grinder to fit my footplate and they are on

the job at the moment so that'll have to wait as well.

OE Black optic grille arrived today along with new fog surrounds.

Time to start bodyshop hunting, I want it done pronto really.

Plug and play led numberplate lamps came too, got errors when I tried

changing bulbs. These units replace the whole lot, lens and all. They

screw directly into place, Lurking the forums I've read to upgrade the screws as

the OE ones are made of chocolate. Having tried to do this job once

already I can concur. The screws are rubbish, They should be stainless

steel really. But they are not, far too soft and a weird cross size on the head.

May order a gloss black badge for the grille yet? We'll see...

I'd have to do the rear badge to match. But, that may be too much black

even for me...

Very very very nice!!!

That is a lovely looking car, i'm sure you have been informed as to how well these ko4's respond to a stage 1 map ;)

I think it's quite fast enough for me.

More updates, car is away for a couple of weeks at the bodyshop having

new black grille, fog surrounds, front bumper respray and mirrors vinyl wrapped

in gloss black. Can't wait to see it when it's done :)

Left with the van at the moment which rather annoyingly has just turned up it's toes

and died on me. The vans going in tomorrow for new glow plugs as I can't start it.

Hoping to bump start it in the morning towing it behind the Fiat. Or I'll have to splash out

£40 to get it taken in on a truck.

Pics to come when it's back :)

Any chance of a bit of gold on it ? , or has this combo been done to death ;)

For me FASH was a must, and it had to be completely unmodified.

(Ready for me to ruin it ;) )

See if you can find out which dealer has been taking care of it

most recently and give them a bell and ask some questions regarding

service history, any crash repairs and what options were specced from new.

I did, the guy selling it was quite surprised to see that I already had all the dates

and mileages of all work carried out when I arrived to see the car.

It will also help you to ascertain whether or not the mileage is genuine.

It will also give you an idea if anything has been added by previous owners.

(retro fitted OE mods like RNSE or folding mirrors etc)

Other than that all the usual checks when buying a used car, make sure you check the oil

water and other fluids, a small flexi fridge magnet for checking for filler repairs,

decent matching tyres all round suggest it's been taken care of too.

Hopefully the seller is a more mature person (Mine was) so that may reassure

you it hasn't been thrashed around too much.

Sounds good. What's that costing out of interest? PM if you prefer.

I'm not concerning myself with the cost of the painting really Steve,

My indy is taking care of all of it, and he needs some building work

done so a bit of a labour exchange is taking place. ;) He doesn't do painting as

such but will outsource the work to his favoured bodyshop.

They fixed some minor damage to the MX5 while I had it so I've seen

their work and I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

I bought the fog surrounds and grille from a german ebay seller.

Black optic Grille (with no gap for S3 badge) was £130, fog surrounds about £55 OE genuine parts.

Mirrors will be about £40 for the wrapping and respraying the bumper will

hopefully only involve a token payment if any.

While it's off the road I have one of the alloys off of the car which desperately

needs a refurb which I will be taking to Lepsons Swindon later this week.

The car is sitting on 3 wheels and the space saver at the moment in my indys

lockup.

*Pause* You are really close to me! You kept that one quiet. I'm from Swindon.... I have always been chuffed with Lepsons.

Once you get the car back, I don't suppose you would mind meeting up to let me have a look/ask stupid questions do you?

Of course Rob, It may be a couple of weeks yet.

Because my guy is doing me a favour (and me him) the timescale

is a little looser than normal. But I don't mind at all under the circumstances.

He got my starting issue with my van fixed today after slotting me in to

his current workload. (A lot of my money has gone in his till so I get pushed

to the front of the queue when I need something fixing sharpish)

Been using my wifes Fiat as a works van for the last few days

Got a few funny looks this morning at Trade Point :p

I live in Keynsham near Bristol but I'm happy to travel

to Swindon for the refurb as Lepsons reputation precedes them.

I learnt of them from Gareth1.8T back when I lived in London.

He was a regular customer at their Kent yard and having seen their work

on a couple of sets of his wheels I'd be reluctant to go elsewhere.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thumbs up! I like your car a lot

  • 4 weeks later...

Love this!

Great purchase.

It is a very nice car. Off to look at the classifieds

Get some new pictures up.... I know you've made some changes ;)
