Duly noted gentlemen.

The refurb is a few months away yet anyhow.

I'll probably change my mind 3 or 4 times before then

40th birthday is in April. :( I'll cheer myself up with the refurb then I reckon.

Looks evil Garry - love it!

On the lookout for replacement mirror covers so I can lose the silver earrings next. As much as I love them

a set of OE replacement silver caps will cost over £500 I kid you not.

This means there's a significant market out there for used ones so they get nicked

a lot. Some people want to make a S3 replica out of their A3. I'm doing the opposite ;)

What's more the thieves just tend to rip the whole mirror from the car so add to that the

led indicators and heated and dimming glass and motors etc and you've got an expensive repair

to pay for. I'll get some plain ones and have them sprayed to match the car.

My mates S3 mirrors got nicked loads of times and as you say they just rip the whole unit off which does loads of other dmaage including electrical wires.

He got fed up of it and each time was costing between £500 & £800 per mirror depending on what damage had been done.

Car looks fantastic BTW

I needed a speed camera/SC zone warning system as the RNSE doesn't

really accomodate this(You can apparently add them as custom POIs but there

is no audible warning so unless you were constantly watching the screen you'd

probably miss them anyway). it would be daft to have my garmin set up as

well to be warned of cameras coming up.

My mum bought me an Inforad K2 GPS based camera detector

for Christmas which arrived today. It's very simple but should give me a heads

up when I need one. I'm still very unfamiliar with the area in which I live and

it's easy to be going quicker than you think in this car. Particularly after owning a diesel

for years :/

I've just finished updating it (Free lifetime updates, sirf star 3 technology, uses pocket gps database)

I'll review it here once I've given it a whirl. :)

Sounds good. Always good to have something keeping an eye out for you :)

You going to hardwire some power in for it?

No need really, battery life is 4-5 hours, and I rarely drive anywhere

that far away but it came with a usb cigar lighter converter and still works

when plugged into that if needed. It can even find a satellite inside my house.

I took Mrs Grr out for a meal at a nice pub in the countryside last night.

18 miles each way so I thought I'd give it a tryout.

First impressions are very good, on the way I drove past a fixed camera that I

know and it gave me plenty of warning. (You can set how much warning

on the downloadable device manager, which is a nice feature)

Also, the warning is speed sensitive. To test this I deliberately approached

the (30) camera at 35 and it continued beeping and flashing until I slowed

to 30 then the light stopped flashing but remained on until I was clear

of the camera. You then get an 'all clear' beep and the light returned to static

green. I never went into an average speed zone but it spotted several

mobile camera zones on the journey which I would have otherwise been

unaware of. They use the vans round my way a lot so this is very useful.

There are 2 LEDs on the unit, and that's it, the unit itself is not much bigger

than a standard memory stick and weighs 1oz with a cap on one end which

you remove to charge/update. It plugs straight into the computer so no wires

at all. It has a small switch which can set one of 3 volume settings and a small

on off switch.

Flashing green = searching for satellite (After initial switch on it takes about

10 seconds to get a fix)

Static green = on and monitoring.

Red and 3 beeps = Approaching fixed camera. Flashing red and continued beeping

if travelling too quickly

Amber and 3 beeps = Entering mobile camera zone. Flashing amber and continued

beeping if travelling too quickly.

Green and amber and 3 beeps = Entering average speed camera zone. Flashing together

and continued beeping if going too quickly.

A very simple system to get your head around. You can set to silent via the software

but I prefer it to beep personally. I got the deluxe kit. In the box there was a uk usb

3pin adaptor, a continental usb 2 pin adaptor (Which can both be used to charge other devices too)

A dash clip (the sticky pad is a bit crap though) a cigar lighter usb converter, the device of course

and a small fitted leather pouch to keep it in. The software is downloadable directly from inforad

website and takes up just 5mb on your computer.

The best bit for me after the initial disappointment of the sticky pad failing to stick

to my dash was that I discovered that it fits perfectly between and slightly under

the two buttons protruding from the face of my dash pod. It doesn't move at all

(I tried ;) ) from there and puts the display right in front of your face. Also it doesn't

obscure the DIS at all. The cowl should also provide some shade in bright sunlight

which after reading other online reviews seemed to be the main complaint about

the unit.

But luckily it's almost made to measure for this spot on my car and very discreet there.

It functions perfectly from this position so the bracket will be going in my van.

(after I put some decent tape on it)

I'll add some pics when I get the chance. But to sum up for the £40 odd quid it cost

I will certainly be getting one for Mrs G as it's very easy to use and works well.

(She also has a factory usb port in her Fiat so she could leave it plugged in

permanently if she wanted) It's definitely better than setting up the sat nav just

to warn of cameras.

Good write up and made me check them out on the web. Only £32.49 via Amazon, though not very helpful with telling you what's in the box. I would assume it's going to have what you mention above though.

I've got one of them k2 detectors. Good little thing for the money really and got me out a few potential tickets with my awareness!

I have the deluxe kit, It comes with all the accessories mentioned above

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Inforad-K2-DELUXE-GPS-Speed-Camera-Detection-/181053330851?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2a279e95a3

but I think you can just buy the basic unit too. The link here is to buy direct

from the manufacturer which is where my Mum ordered mine from.

£39.99 plus £2.99 postage for the full kit or £34.99inclusive for the basic pack.

They sell the accessories separately but they charge a tenner for the

leather case alone, in my book it's worth the extra £8 for all the

extras. 2 year warranty if bought from inforad directly as well :)

Cheers Grr. :)

The Amazon one is most likely just the basic then.

Fantastic looking motor!

Fan washer jets on order.

(Can't believe they aren't this type already, cheapskates.)

Got triple single jets either side and one is blocked up so

I have 3 squirters on the left and just 2 on the right.

(Sounds like a dodgy porno film lol )

Hopefully the wirings there already as the new ones are heated too.

Where did you get the fan type jets from? Will change the ones on SWMBO'S A3.

Let me check they fit first, they aren't really for a A3 type car.

If they go on okay I'll post the link, they are bought on the advice of

others via Audi sport and I don't want you to waste your money if

they are the wrong type.

But to answer your question... Ebay. £24 for the pair delivered

How much???

I replaced both of them on my Fabia and it come to a total of £2 something

I suppose anything Audi is 10x the price?

They won't be heated though, although I dont know if they

are on mine until I get the old ones off.

They are off of a Passat actually.

But I take your point, for example a new mirror glass is 200 quid.

I was under the impression that the Fabia's jets were heated too?

Could be wrong though!

Nope. Was an option in some countries, but not here.

Just extend the washer fluid hose and wrap it round a coolant one a few times.

Always worked for me in Land Rovers.

Bonus is the warm water cleans the screen better too. :)

So, she's in having the MOT, a bit of a pricey one this year.

Turns out there was a broken coil spring drivers side rear.

I had noticed it wasn't sitting level but put that down to my drive

not being level. Asked my indy to investigate before testing the car.

It's in a week before the current cert expires.

Two new OE rear springs and fitting coming in at about £320,

add to that 4 new Pilot sport 3's at £110 each plus fitting.

There's a chunk out of one of the front tyres on the car and

the two rears are on the wear indicators (as they were when I bought

the car) = a full set needed in my book...

Also, the front brake pads are 90% worn and are the ones it

left the factory with, so about 50k on them.

A replacement set of genuine Audi ones add another

£80 plus fitting to the bill. And finally the mirror covers,

£50 for the respray plus removal of the brushed alu S3 ones

and refitting of the black ones.

So total spend will be just over a grand, there goes my remap :(

No further mods planned until my wallet recovers from this lot...

Pics of the car with the new mirror covers when I get it back.

I also owe you guys a pic of my speed camera detector in position.

I expect it will still be a wheel refurb and retro fitted cruise

next. Birthdays coming up ;)

Quite a few bits to do, but the prices don't sound that bad.

It is a hot hatch with over 200bhp after all.

Your first post says it's got Audi MOT cover. You've only had it five months.

You shouldn't have to pay for the springs then...
