Screen wash

Featured Replies

Just bought 20 litres of concentrate from ECP for £8!

Will be using this from now on. The rear jet is normal, not fan so can't see how they can wriggle out of anything on that score. As for the fronts, if they are the same as the ones on my Bora (haven't looked tbh) they are around £2 each to replace!

Also if you have a brita water filer, use that water ;)

Anything else but VAG approved and it will void your Warranty and you must inform your Insurance company

  • http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_35794.htm I use this for both our VAG cars as it is suitable for fan jets (stated on bottle)

  • No need to keep going back to the dealer for new rear nozzles. It's dead easy to pop it off and blow any dirt out of them, push it back on and all is good again after no more than 30 seconds!

I don't think that stuff is much cop. It doesn't list temperatures and is 50:50 for winter and neat for sever winter.

Mine wasnt blocked but your advice above was spot on, i had to adjust my jet as it wasnt covering the screen but passers by lol so easy to sort it i spent more time finding a needle to adjust lol.

I usually use the VAG stuff and the local VW garage was the only garage that had stocks in that really bad patch of cold weather in 2009-2010. I was using it half diluted as it was so cold. I bought four bottles then and still working through them. I also bought a couple of the bottles Lidl stuff just in case we had another cold winter last year.

Just an extra note on this HOT topic, i was suggested a few years ago to flush the system with clean water, add a milton steralising tab, get it through the system and leave for a few hours.

Screen wash can lead to mould on the filters of the pumps, pipes and nozzles. Milton cleans and kills it all therefore preventing biologicals clogging up the system, leading to better flow through the system.

Bacteria is only really an issue if you use water and no screenwash. Can lead to legionella bacteria so not good to skimp on screen wash.

Whenever it's in stock, I get that and another torque wrench and some more wiper blades. Not been tempted by the 'Ultimate Speed' seat covers,,,,,,,,,,,yet

Hell...I got the lot - twice over.

Think I've also found a use for that water from the dehumidifier - unless someone tells me that's worse than tap water.

Yep, IIRC there was a bit on the news a while ago about how the Legionella Bactiria in washer bottles was found to be the source of some poor sods demise.

As long as you're using strong enough screenwash, not much will grow in there.

Anyone seen the Lidl washer concentrate on sale yet? Used the last of mine at the weekend.

I picked up a litre of VAG stuff at TPS for a few pennies over three quid. Probably works out cheaper than the Lidl stuff then......

Err no. Lidl stuff is still much cheaper, based on the above figures.

Yep - £5.99 for 5 litres, goes down to -60 (I think) neat and suitable for fan jets. That sounds like the same spec as OEM to me. Picked 2 up at the weekend - should hopefully see me through the winter.

I'm not sure the price, minimum temperature and jet type alone constitutes it as being the same as OEM.

Just picked up 20 litres (heavy man) and that will get me through a couple of mild winters. £6 for five litres at Lidl or £3 for one litre at VAG, now which is the cheaper one chaps?

Both the same essential specification to me.

Only complaint is that the lemon scent isn't lemon scented to my nose.

How does the plastic cover come off the rear wiper to get at the jets? Is there a knack 'cos I cant move mine and am frightened to

damage things!

Lack of screen wash leads to mould. The methanol kills bacteria in the fluid.

yeh its a pain, i pulled up on one side of the cover preferably the side nearest the spoiler then the other side, the jet just pulls out.

Wait. OEM screenwash ? GTFO, seriously ? Is this on the shelf next to tartan paint ?

Undiluted what temperature does it go down to?

Pivots up away from the arm. As you look at the cap, pull it up from the left-hand side and it should move without too much force. You can then remove it completely if you want; it just clips on.

Then the jet just pulls off from there, as the feed for the washer comes through the centre of the wiper motor.

That Triplex stuff mentions -8. Not so concentrated if that is its service temperature. The Lidl stuff is good for -60C undiluted.

Yep, I'm sticking with the Lidl stuff. Might pick up another 5l tomorrow whilst they still have some left.
