Funny yet annoying, my dash ATE my phone!

Featured Replies

Well dunno about you guys, but i find the interior of my fl vrs has nowhere perfectly suited for my mobile. Dont know why, but i dont like it in the cupholders, the wee seat dish is full of change and well, theres not many other options that its within view. So ive taken to sitting it just infront of the gearstick, on top of the little cubby hole. Perfect, i thought, as its within sight, reach and can be charger easily with the car charger! However this morning as i awaited my colleague i was sitting plating with my phone. as i saw him draw up in his car, i sat the phone in its usual place. However out the corner of my eye i saw it lift, yep musta pushed down by accident. Next thing i know, the dash has swallowed the phone!! No hassle, i thought, itl be on the cubby hole...nope. Upon further inspection i found there seems to be a phone sized gap above the cubbyhole, i could feel the phone but had no way to get it out as my fingers litterally just fitted. My colleague was, by now, in the car and highly amused! So we had to head as already running late. On the hour drive to work my dashboard bleeped 3 times telling me i had messages! So frustrating! Just went out at lunch, and with a little inspection found that the wee cubby hole can be removed out with 2 screws and the phone popped out! So, theres the story, hope you enjoyed but more importantly learned from my mistake HAHA!

Seems like you had one of those days! I got trapped in a service lift I got into today and ended up trapped in it for 10 min, finally someone called it I had to get out 14 floors higher than I wanted and wait for a commoner lift.

I can whole-heartedly recommend one of these:

They are costly, but worth it. And the most important bit is that you don't have to drill holes into your dashboard.

I also had this happen to me last week.

Was heading to a meeting hit a pot hole (unfortunately) which in turn decided to open the cover where my phone was resting.

Phone disappears behind the cover/trim and all the way up the m4 I hear my car beeping as the phone rings.

Not the best way to start the day especially when your boss asks "why ain't you answering your phone"? And you reply "because its behind my dashboard"

Mine either goes in the car dock, the cup-holder, or the cubby on top the dash, depending on what I'm doing. :)

I've been using Brodit now for my last 3 HTC phones. The product range is super.

I usually find a rubber mat helps to stop the phone dissappearing in these situations

And that attitude wont get you much help.

Im on a mobile.

1. I didnt ask for any help. I was telling a silly story and hoping to alert fellow users of a real annoyance.

2. If i was asking for help, your first post wasn't much use was it?

3. You're also on mobile, great! However you're only writing 1 or 2 sentances at a time, not a rather long story like i was.

4. You shouldn't start a sentance with "and"

Defo, gonna get the oem bluetooth i think :D

Defo, gonna get the oem bluetooth i think :D

Expensive way to do it. :)

I have a Bury HF kit in a Brodit Dash/vent Mount all supplied by Wardy

Nice bit of Kit, worth every penny.

Phone in pocket + OEM bluetooth is amazing!!

Now that I think about it, I've got 4 GSM devices in my car...

A tablet, mounted next to the right hand side A-pillar, my personal phone (iPhone 4, until Lumia 920 comes out), my work phone (ZTE F159, plugs into external aerial), and a Nokia E6 that was my old personal phone, but is still full of contacts.

The iPhone and the ZTE sit perfectly next to eachother in the cubby hole in the middle of the dash, the E6 sits perfectly out of sight and out of mind, in the cubby hole next to the steering wheel, and the tablet has the window-mount holder.

I'd still like some more storage in these cars, though! :p

Nice attitude ....You'll go far

Thats a little excessive, surely it is easier to save the contacts from your old Nokia onto the iPhone?

What's the tablet in the car for? Do you use it for sat nav? This can be had on the iPhone too can't it?

I reckon I've just reduced the total number of potential distractions in your car by half!?

tbf my second comment was not meant to sound quite so offensive, i did want to add a smiley to lighten the tone but couldn't work it out on my mobile. I do, however, stand by its basic point. Maybe no need for such a sharp tone from me. However there was no need for silly and pointless comments like that in the first place. It comes across to me, a "newbie" to briskoda, as very unwelcoming, arrogant and shows a lack of interest in the actual point of the thread. We're not here to discuss grammar or good English skills! However, lets forget it and move on!

Well said mate!!

Tell the grammar police to F.Off

It's a forum, not an English exam

Guess I won´t pass on this

On a similar vein, the top part of my dash ate my car pass a while back too... and I would think it may do the same for any particularly slim phones out there... it had slid across to the passenger side (under the tax disc) and then worked it's way down the gap to sit between the dash and the screen! Cue 5 undignified minutes of trying to get it out (fortunately I managed it in the end)... You have been warned!!
