Recommend Me A Tyre

Featured Replies

I know you said no due to wet grip for Toyo T1-R's but I dont find them bad in the wet? But great in the dry vs their price.

I run them on all my cars minus the ****ron C1 (too much power you see for the tyres to handle!)

Two of them are mid-engined rwd cars and not crashed yet (ok now im f000ked)

Think the trick is when its wet is to not carry on driving like its dry imho.

Parada spec 2 are hideous in the wet, but amazing in the dry.

I also have never ever had an issue with T1-R's in the wet, whether it be on track or road. Think some peoples driving probably lends itself to scary moments in the wet tbh. I have pushed them pretty hard on several wet days out on track, and I certainly don't lack confidence in them.

Performance vs price they are very hard to beat IMO.

One other thing to remember is that while reviews of tyres are a good guide, every car is different and what you may experience to be good, might not be in someone else's case. Some tyres will be better on a wider width, and some better on a narrower one, they all vary.

Kumho tyres did the job for me - good in the wet and dry - 1/2 the price of the major brand names

Suggest you look at the tyres section of the forum:

The Rainsport 2s are good but quite noisy and gosh they wear fast when fitted to the front, it's a soft compound. Mind you, the older Eagle F1s are no better in that respect.

You could be right, but been 'v' tread they can aquaplane before other designs, it does seem that Toyo have also noticed this as they no longer produce the T1R, so I'm told. .

From the Toyo website:

"V-Shaped Main Grooves

Disperse water for better wet performance".

Still readily available and no mention of them not being made anywhere.

Also rainsport 2's have the V pattern and are obv designed for wet sufaces.... Just had two fitted today after reading so much about them on here. Camskills are much cheapness :)

Toyo Proxes 4 are the worst tyre bar none i have ever used - currently have them on my car now and i would be better off running slicks in the wet. I only bought them as i could not get hold of any Toyo T1-R's at the time.

I've ran T1-R's on a 330bhp Scoob, Clio 172, Lotus Elise and my VRS with a combined total of around 130,000 miles and i would not think twice about having another set. Biggest plus point = wet weather performance B)

I don't drive like a asbo in the wet. Not saying you do! But mine with the proxy 4s on the back lets go before the front slides in the wet. As with most tyres if you push your luck in the wet it will bite you.

Out of interest, did you not find the soft tyre wall on the T1-R's caused abit more "wobble" when turning at speed in the Elise than a harder tyre walled version? I personally find the rear end seems "laggy" when I turn even slightly hard at high speed in the VX.

Moving forward my Ibiza will actually be running semi-slicks whilst as above I think I might try a harder tyre wall when I burn off the rubber of the VX to see if that helps.

Whilst I am selling the MR2 so the only car left with T1-R's will be the daily hack Fabia. But I will stand by them as a very good tyre.

My last set of tyres I bought were t1r's and didn't have a problem with them. Before they were fitted I had paradas which were awful in the wet!

For my last minute trip to the nurburgring I stuck two Hankook v12's on the front. They definitely saved me on a few corners where my budgets would of had me off! I haven't driven with t1r's for a while now but I felt the v12's do have the edge on them.
