Miles to a full tank?

Featured Replies

Hi, as my funds are running dry coming up to Christmas with presents and what not being bought, my driving style has had to change for the time being. I filled up last Saturday evening to to see realistically how far I can get on a full tank.

My commute to work is a 5 mile round trip in which my car does not reach full temperature (50-60 degrees on the oil maxidot) which could effect mpg a little with this colder weather.

Anyhow just wondering what miles people are getting to a full tank in their vrs'?

Leon.

  • Cars ALWAYS suck the fuel from the bottom of the tank as that's where the pickup is Wouldn't be a lot of use if it was anywhere else now would it?

  • People say they dont give a monkeys but we all do , if the car only did 10mpg how many would they sell ??

  • 50 litres is just under 11 gallons, but whats a .3 of a gallon between friends. You did say over 50 litres, sorry. george That was brimming it here when showing 50 miles range, & only getting 4

Starting with a full tank of 45 litres & driving on one or 2 long trips for that tank driving sensibly.

filling up with 40 litres (9 gallons) 380 miles to as much as 480 miles using Tesco Momentum.

45 litres in the tank at the start & just using for short journeys of 5-10 miles and the car never getting hot or good economy, 250 miles. for 9 gallons.

(27 mpg for the 9 gallons, but then it can take 5-10 minutes warming up & going no place to get the car de-iced some mornings)

no longer using it as a daily driver around town.

Interestingly, my cars always go 10% further when using Shell (garage) fuel from my local retailer, than using fuel form the two local supermarkets (Tesco and Morrisons). Always do 'brim to brim' fill ups, and the trips are consistent - work shopping leisure - so can only assume there is a difference in the additives at the Shell station? Hard to believe, but it works out cheaper buting the sliightly dearer (2p per litre) diesel rather than the supermarket stuff (it would need to be 14p / litre cheaper just to cost the same per mile).

Typically 49 mpg with supermarket fuel, 54 with Shell.

Anyone else noticed this?

I've never really experimented with fuel, I've alway used shell v-power from the moment I first put fuel in, I once used bhp's equivalent when I was running low on a motorway run but that was only £20 to get me home..so far I've used half of a quarter from a full tank and I've reached 60 miles so in theory I should get 120 for every quarter I use. Bearing in mind my car is stage 2 tuned so should be good to see what others get to a tank with standard & modified vrs'.

Earlier this year I visited goodwood festival of speed, from manchester it is 500 mile round trip, I had a quarter of a tank when I returned, 2 people in the car fully loaded.

500 miles using 8 gallons would be 62.5 mpg. that is some amazing fuel economy with a tuned & loaded car.

7.5 gallons used is 66 mpg.

even using 9 gallons, you would have got 55mpg.

I have a 1000 mile round trip coming up over new year and i am hoping to make it on 2 tanks will reset on board comp before and also manually calculate mpg :)

I'm getting about 300 miles if im really lucky often less than that

the tank is 45 litre (10 gallons), but i have managed to fit over 50 litres(11.3 gallon) in there to the brim depressing the air valve in the filler cap.

iirc the highest ive ever achieved was 540 miles to a tank driving to Nottingham to Plymouth and back on a single fuel fill up. 70 mph cruise the whole way, with 4 of us in the car. Normally I average about 38mpg around town so approx 380 miles to a tank. rarely does mine drop below 30mpg which considering the power im running i think its awesome.

I was getting 45 -50 litres in previously,

but seem to have struck on a station with pumps slightly over serving fuel, which is nice.

just town driving sees me get about 300 miles from a full tank

I dont trust my range , it went from 50miles left to 25 miles left in just 3 miles on the motorway at 60mph!!

I cant remember how many litres I put in just 12 miles later but it cost £72 so must have been close to 50

Well, all tuners say that remapped engines CAN BE more fuel efficient depending on driving style of course. Tuned engine should be by definition more efficient.

So cruising on motorways it should use less fuel. I think it should be opposite on town driving but then again Sy's car doesn't do it sooo, what do I know :)

Sy, APR should be paying you money as your case is the best advertisement of their work!

250 bhp on hybrid turbo and other mods still returning 38mpg in town, it really is awesome!!

That is max recorded average for my bog standard vRS on my circa 40 miles trip to the office and back along a mix of town and twisty, traffic infested hilly roads!

I usually be lucky to see 300 miles to a full tank, full tank I mean see the petrol in the filler neck.

I tend to see myself fill up 3 times a month and average 800-1000 miles per month. So roughly speaking 300 miles to a full tank around town, commuting to work etc.

As vRSy said about filling more than the 45litre capacity tank specified..if you run the range to 0 (zero) do 15/20 miles or so on from the 0 you will squeeze 48/50 litres in seeing the fuel through the filler neck.

Has anybody here ever run their vRS completely dry, I mean dry to grind to a halt at the side of the road?

You'd have to be a tight b*****d to run a car dry lol

Quite the opposite as I suppose it costs quite dearly to re-pressurise the fuelling system not to mention a potential damaged caused by tank pump sucking in crap from the bottom of the tank?

Ran my Bora dry once,

Fuel light came on having previously run 75 miles with the fuel light on i drove on knowing there was a petrol station near where i was going that shoud have been within range

35 miles later there was me sat on the hard shoulder waiting for the AA :(

Cars ALWAYS suck the fuel from the bottom of the tank as that's where the pickup is

Wouldn't be a lot of use if it was anywhere else now would it?

I'm getting 250-300miles to the fuel light from empty round town and country roads.

I know, but if there is still fuel there that crap "stays" put - suck the last drop of it and it will flow in with it. I never cut a fuel tank open and I haven't seen any drawings or pictures so its me just guessing.

The tank I am on now will be the first where I drive normally so I will see how far is it going to take me :)

haha, you take the word pedantic to the next level.

yes george, it is ever so slightly under 11 gallons, I was working off 4.4 litres to a gallon, instead of 4.56. Well done, your my hero,

Maybe I meant to say I managed to fit 51.528 litres(11.3 gallons) in the tank......... ;-)

George, are you on difflock too, your posting style seems familiar!? I was on there when I briefly ran a Samurai :)

Guilty as charged.

george

5 mile round trip - trying to save money - cycle??

5-mile, that's 20 mins run lol
