what head unit?

Featured Replies

hi im looking to get a new head unit as i am fed up with the standard one! however i do not have a clue where to begin there are so many. basically the things im looking for are:

decent sound quality( i know this is limited, until i find extra cash to upgrade speakers..etc)

single din

aux/ ipod connection

as OEM look as possible

nothing to pricey ( but i suppose you get what you pay for with these things)

if anyones got any suggestions or reviews would be awesome. also is it easy to remove existing radio??

thanks!

if there is already a topic on this the it would be grateful to be directed lol :D

Any reason why restricted to single din? A double din will fit (minus the tray underneath) :) To me double din's also look the most OEM as they're just a whole screen with a set of small buttons at the bottom.

It's a pioneer avh-3200-dvd.

Doesn't look too out of place either :-)

I fitted a Kenwood as it had built in hands free Bluetooth and was good price at about £100 with iPod, USB and aux. Installation was not too bad. Had to file down part of the plastic on top of the under tray. I also had to shorten the wires on the adapter harness so the wires would fit without forcing the stereo in. This removes one of the plastic plugs too. You will need Ariel booster that you need to connect to switched live. However Kenwood stereos have a dedicated blue wire for this. Don't forget to buy the facia adaptor as the standard stereo is bigger then 1 DIN. Put the facia on before the metal holder.

Sony mech less head unit. Less than £100, full iPod control etc and 4x50w amp.

Best head unit I've ever had.

I just got one of these today and I like it.

JVC KD X50BT

It has 2 USB ports one at front one at back, Bluetooth, lots of EQ adjustment, an aux in 3.5mm, you can change the colour to anything you like. And its about £75, looks fairly OEM when set to green as its a simple looking black unit. Drives the speakers very well, I thought I would need new speakers but it sounds damn good. Better than a lot of more expensive cars I've had.

Thank you! :D

Cool, the slightly odd thing that may not be obvious at first is that to use blue tooth you use the tiny little USB dongle, which it comes with, this can be plugged into the front or the back.
