Colombus Makes and models

Featured Replies

Hello,

i am about to swap my bolero for coulombs. Since i was reading a lot about dead navies here, i would like to know which are the problematic ones. Are there any specific make or models of those?

Also how is about codes 1z something, 30 ... dunno the numbers.

I am about to buy one from a friend, who owns superb 2, model year 2008 .. i am about to fit it into the same make and year.

Just dont wanna end up with a problematic one :)

To use the topic, anyone knows, should there be any issues fitting my bolero (2008) into octavia 2011? There is a different frame around radio, but technically?

Many thanks!

All the Columbus units come from the same manufacturer, Continental I believe. You shouldn't have a problem putting one in your car though you will need someone with VCDS to code the car so it knows it has a nav system installed. they will have a part number which has 035 680 in it. 1Z0 indicates it was for an Octavia and 3T0 indicates it was originally for a Superb and so on. It may have a letter at the end indicating which revision it is starting with A. Obviously the later the letter, the later the unit would have been built. Providing it is a genuine unit with a security code then it should be OK. If it is a unit with dodgy providence that has had the motherboard soldered to overcome the lack of code the you will probably get into problems if you try to update the unit.

You may need a new fascia surround but I can't see you having an insurmountable problem with it.

If your Bolero looks lige this:

It will fit in a Superb II only.

Other models will fit an Octavia/Yeti/whatever fine :)

Most issues on Columbus tend to come mechanical hard drive. Before you install, you could consider upgrading HD to solid state one and if you play lots of music you could consider size increase too.

Cheers

Thx all for answers! Well mostly i am afraid of motherboard failure. Disk i could change somehow if it happens.

So if i understand you correctly .. if i don't get to enter the code, unit was probably stolen (and therefore not upgradable)?

Ok, so 1Z0 and 3T0 is just about octy/superb? So is there any big difference (except of LED back-light) for newer/older models? Processor and so on the same?

Oh one more .. is it possible to upgrade 2008 model to speech recognition?

THX for answers!

Most of the dodgy units come from Eastern Europe, and AFAIK if there is no scurity code with the unit then you should be very careful and think about it before buying.

Upgradign depends on the revision you have, earlier ones like mine which are A units won't accept later and higher numbered firmware revisions. I have a feeling yours may be an earlier one as my Octavia was built at the end of the pre-facelift production cycle at the end of 2008.

I upgraded mine from 1024 firmware to 2684 and put the latest v9 maps in, don't ask me where I got it from as the mods don't like it!! Plenty of info on internet and you could do a forum search on Briskoda, there are loads of posts and info on here and other sites about Columbus units and what is possible.

Ian.

Ok, thx. Well the owner claims he got it form tottaled superb, my 2008. Will see if it will match the 3T0 in the first place. And if he wont give me the code with it its a deal braker for me as well. Anyways, gonna meet the guy in person in front of skoda dealer, in case there will be some technical issues installing it.

Well, thx for the UP. Will let u knwo tommorow how it went :)
