Stiff Handbrake?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I suppose you don't notice it when you drive it every day but last week my wife drove my Yeti and commented that the she struggled to apply the handbrake. I've had a look and indeed it does need quite some force to apply it. I don't remember what it was like when I bought it 2+ years ago but feel its stiffer than usual.

Has anyone else had a problem with theirs or are they aware of any remedial/recall work needed to free it up? It was serviced in June time so would have hoped they lubricated everything underneath.

A few people have reported a "fault" with the concertina like bit around the handle.

I have this fault, the internal mechanism within the brake lever had come loose from its tracking. The dealer fixed it.

I wish I could say the same

...and normality is resumed - much better :sun:

Should I go to the corner now, or wait for Graham to send me?

Ok, OK Children - we are not supposed to be writing the script for the next Carry On film here. #fnaarrrr!

You will have to do better than that to get in your new refurbished corner  . But keep trying

I had a similar problem a few months back...turned out to be the handbrake blind ,was "rippled" and was getting caught on the handbrake pull.

Robert! Do you still remember the way?

Oh sod it, pleased to have you back so you can have some on account. ;)

Back on topic, the corrugated section that moves with the handbrake can get jammed with grit etc. It happened on my first Yeti. Dealer should sort it but book it in as it takes a little while.

No, no, let's be fair. We've all had a bit of trouble with a bit of grit in the folds now and again. Apart from our 'roundhead' brethren that is.

:o nearly a corner one there Bob. the best thing is to put a towel on the sand before you SIT on the beach .

:D :D

That's more like it.

Handbrake, try putting your foot quite firmly on the foot brake and the handbrake also becomes easier to apply and is more effective.

a squirt of WD40 by the garage and we're back to having a free handbrake. Simple!

Yup, a bit of lubrication never does any harm.

So you didn't have grit in the folds of the sheath then?
