Not impressed at all

Featured Replies

I operate three cars and except for the usual servicing/maintenance involved with high mileage cars I've never experienced anything like what I'm having with my Skoda Octavia (60 plate).

At it's second service I was told that the fuel filter housing was deterioating but not covered by the warranty and now 19 days after the warranty has expired I have the following problems

1. Clutch judder (In due course new clutch and flywheel)

2. Leaking radiator (New radiator)

3. Turbo hose bulging (New hose)

Only really went for a new car because I thought it would give me less hassle and expense but this has left a sour taste.

It's done 70000 miles.

Any thoughts?

If you have FSH I would expect a gesture of goodwill from Skoda.

70k for a clutch could be classed as normal wear and tear, depending how you drive.

Leaking radiator - probably caused by stone/impact damage.

Turbo hoses are peanuts, I wouldn't worry about that one.

As for the fuel filter housing I would have kicked up a fuss about that.

I had a new fuel filter housing on my 2007 (57) PD170 vRS a few months ago.

I got a 50% goodwill gesture from Skoda UK - on a car two years out of warranty and on 60,000+ miles.

They appear to be a pretty poor design, the recess on the lid prevents any water or moisture from escaping so it just sits there. As it's right next to the cambelt any grit or salt thrown up into the engine bay and onto the belt ends up on and around the fuel filter housing making the liklihood of corrosion worse.

The rest sounds like fair wear and tear to me.

70K would be average mileage on a 6-7 year old car. If you had a car of that age but with your mileage I'm sure you would expect some wear and tear.

Paint the lid of the fuel filter with kurust.

The quality must have dropped as my 55 plate 160k miler is on the original filter housing still.

Paint the lid of the fuel filter with kurust.

We covered the one on my dads TDI with waxoil type treatment and it never rusted in several years.

Skoda... Simply Clever ;)

To be fair they are/were used by Seat, VW and Audi too.
