We buy any car values.

A couple of months ago I entered my car reg' into WBAC and got back a valuation of aprox £13350-00 (cannot remember the exact amount).Today,I received an email saying Yetis are so popular the value of my car has increased so, I re entered the car details and the value has shot up to £13890-00 which was quite a pleasant surprise.

I think everyone gets that email, every car I have put a valuation in seems to go up in value a few weeks / months later. The system knows your registration number so will display the revised figure. However enter another car of the same make / model and age you'll get the low figure again, followed by an email later on. That all falls into touch though when you present the car at their place for inspection. They'll pick apart every imperfection and stone chip to reduce the price they have to pay.

First time any valuation for me has gone up.I agree the valuation should be taken with a huge pinch of salt.

In fact they don't buy any car. A friend of mine wanted to sell her Merc but they wouldn't take it. And before anyone asks, it was a decent motor.

Would I deal with them? No way

My brother took an absolutely dire Peugeot 307 SW HDi to them, the online price was a couple of grand but when he got there the guy offered him £500 less as the the quote is pending inspection, he negotiated £250 less than the internet price as the car was dreadful.

It got the point where we would wait for three lights in a line on the dash before we opened the tool box, every weekend it needed something looking at, ABS, this was a sensor fix, electric window, all the wires in the door hinge area had snapped, so a whole new rewire and the the dreaded DPF, exhaust off a long 2" hole cutter on the drill and a hole was made straight through it, this cured the light coming on but WBAC was the only way out for this blurt!

I would sell a good car to them, you would get more private I think, they usually offer £500 less than trade, then they hope to make this in the auction room.

I thought they only made money by offering you a good price, then once they have you there lowering the price due to every little minor thing they can find.

Seem to recall a report on them a year or two back in which the vast majority of people didn't get near the online price quoted.

It's OK for getting a (very) rough price if you're looking to part ex, but to sell to them I'd be very wary.

All there going to do is kick you in the never regions once you're there with the car in the hope that they can 'nick' it off you.

They all wear black & white horizontal striped jerseys and black masks IMHO - whatever price the initial quote is - when you take it to them, they'll knock £££££'s off for every minor blemish.

£9k offered for a previous (MINT) Golf which I sold privately for £12.5k

I used these guys. www.sellthecar.co.uk/

Kept 100% to their word and I talked them up £90 from their original quote

£3100 for a 2005/55 Cmax 2.0 tdci Ghia

And they paid me in cash on collection from my home. I was getting no takers at £3500 on autotrader.

We Buy Any Car.com is actually part of the Carcraft group. Not to be confused with any other on line buyer of second hand (pre-loved) cars with similar "any car" names.

If you have ever been to a Carcraft site, you will know how difficult it is to get away from their sales people without buying something, and I have no doubt that their methods are similar when they are buying a car from you.

Earlier this year my Mondeo Zetec TDCi estate on an 02 plate 100K miles failed its MOT on rear suspension control arm bushes (and a small fuel leak). Parts alone would have been over £400 with the same in labour to fit. I didn't even ask about the cost to find and fix the leak. So with 2 weeks MOT left it went to the recycling for £450 as the rest of the car was in really good condition. The recycle man fixed it up and it's back on the road. I would have got £200 in scrap. I guess thats also how WBAC.com make even more money.

QED :)

I have had valuations in the past, including the "your car has gone up in value" offers but have never bitten as I have got good deals from the respective dealers in each case as part exchange.

If I were to be tempted I would make sure that the examining depot was not so far away that it made it a problem to get home if their offer was not accepted. If I'm quoted a price based on my opinion of the condition of the car I expect to be treated as an honest person not a villain. :@

There is now a function on Autotrader that gives you a price which you should put you car up for sale on their website, mine came out at £14400-00.

Hmm... just tried it. I put in average mileage from the date I purchased 26.10.2011. It gave me a figure £400 more than I paid; and that's ignoring the fact that SkodaUK gave me £300.
