Cheers mate, would have asked you but assumed yr car being 07 has the gateway at the glovebox. Yeah agree it looks easier going through the firewall behind the glovebox.

It seems that a few eary '07 cars have the CAN still behind the govebox (if only...) but generally from MY'07 onwards they are above the driver's footwell.

it doesn't matter where you join into the CAN wiring, as long it is the right colour

when I fitted xenons with auto leveling I joined on to the drive CAN on the steering column

and when I fitted rear pdc to my golf i joined on to the CAN on the climate panel

Thanks eddie, I wondered if I could join to an orange/purple and orange/brown pairing anywhere convenient, sounds like I can from what you say. That was the drive can at the heating controls was it??

Thanks

Adam

there are 3 types of can wiring

address 76 parking uses (green / orange & brown / orange)

address 10 parking uses (black / orange & brown / orange)

purple / orange & brown / orange is for the Radio, Telephone and MDI

Brown/orange is CAN low throughout the vehicle.

CAN High colouring depends upon which CAN system you are tapping into .

(The link doesn't work but IIRC the system they discuss us a FL couring so it would be orange/black (CAN High) as its on address 10

link doesn't work

i have checked and the my post above is correct

The my-gti.com site seems to be down for now. Thanks both for your very helpful input, seems that the link relates to FL wiring. As we are talking pre-FL, this may explain the discrepancy, so glad I asked the question, as I was unaware of the differences here.

FL wiring is Black/Orange & Brown/Orange as in my earlier post

Would you or anyone know if this was the same for pre-FL though? Doesn't seem logical to have changed, but the link definitely mentions purple/orange for CAN HIGH on the bi-xenon connector (interestingly it doesn't mention the colours on the gateway so its only mentioned once and I guess it could be a slip by the author of that link).

if your controller is address 10 then it is Black/orange & brown/orange

if your controller is address 76 then it is Green/orange & brown/orange

simple

Ok thanks

Just to confuse things, my pre-FL (MY'07 - April) has orange/brown & orange/black twisted pair running to the CAN gateway.

A friend with a Vrs LE '09 plate also has the same colour wiring.

Link working again.

It seems to imply that he is talking about connecting to the Xenon CAN wiring.

But doesn't state it clearly enough for sure.

Or whether it is FL or pre-FL.

The Gti link is using the wrong colours, Xenons are wired to the Drive can bus (black/orange & brown/orange)

if your part number ends 475 (address 10) it uses the drive can bus

if it ends 283 (address 76) it uses the (green/orange & brown/orange)

Is it the Drive CAN bus that comes out from the CAN gateway?

all 3x come from the can gateway

Really want to do this, but the o.dering bit is worrying me especially as my gateway is on the drivers side. Happy to do the trim and wiring but might have to see if someone wants some beer tokens for the final fix

Also did someone have the link to removing the scuttle panel please?

Bookmarking all the bits and then I'm going to have a go in the summer. If I have enough cash I will change the clinatronic too

40 for the module, 15 for genuine can wiring, a couple of quid for a repair wire. I'm still working out where to join to the drive CAN but will give it a go soon and report back. The other issue that might add to the cost is a new gateway, as apparently you need a revision E or higher ( easily checked on vcds ).

Adam

Be interested to hear how you get on fella. As regards the gateway, I have that already when I bought the bolero so I'm good

(OPS Octavia’s fitted with just rear sensors use 5J0 919 475 A controllers…which are 4K)

Well it looks like my 5J0 919 475 A Octavia controller I fitted 2 or 3 weeks ago to the TT will be up for sale shortly, as the OPS is not working with my car / RNS-E / controller combination.

Also did someone have the link to removing the scuttle panel please?

I've linked to a tutorial with pictures on another forum from a post in this thread or a post in another thread on this forum. Have a search and you should find it.

Basically, remove wiper arms, pull rubber seal off (push fit to replace), remove plastic trim, under wiper arm linkage bolts, remover linkage & motor.

If the linkage doesn't come out easily, remove more trim. It all pushes back in place easy enough.

Cheers KB, knew someone had. Will check your posts and save the page

Weird, can't edit my post
