Neither, Nexus 4 FTW ;)

And why is that?

I'm more than happy with a Galaxy S2

go and have a look at both and play. The S3 is great and have heard good things about the note. But as I have a nexus tablet I don't see any advantage on going for a phablet.

I have the Note 2,

Had the Desire HD before, I was sick of just carrying my phone and a charger everywhere. The screen wasn't quite big enough for watching vids etc. It was either a choice of watching vids for couple of hours or surf for a few hours. Or do both and not have a phone to use lol. I have a 10inch tablet to accommodate that.

But since getting the note 2 it seems to make my tablet a little redundant. Note 2 battery lasts 1.5 to 3 days, ie capacity of battery is nearly as good as a decent 10inch tablet.

++:

Battery

Screen is big enough to watch films etc.

Good for Sat nav (in fact bigger than most sat nav gadgets lol).

There's also this 'wow' presence from other people when you whip it out.

Never lose it as its pretty big item to lose

Stylus pen

It seems more future proof than the S3

Making my tablet redundant is a little annoying, size is a bit annoying esp playing games, still have occasional cramps.. phone calls and surfing is fine.

Don't really fit in jean pockets very well. you'll need to put your phone on the table before sitting down..

Cant find a decent case for it (either its too big or its thin but little protection).

Think my conclusion was, is it worth paying extra £50-100 more for stylus, battery and size.

Thanks for that. I'm swayin more towards the note

Less bloatware, latest 4.2, screen is far sharper, plus everyone and there dog and granny has an S3.

Its cheaper to buy sim free

Looks better its a real looker

Has more RAM

Quicker processor

Did i mention its a work of art to look at?? none of this thin plastic rubbish.

The note is flipping huge, and people I see using as a phone look ridiculous.

Note is too big, not that I'm naturally biased or anything though..

Mobile world congress is only about 6 weeks away.....

Note 2 all the way.

As said already battery is very good, screen is great for films and games. Only downside is the size at times, sticks into your side when sitting down and driving unless your have huge pockets.

Before getting one I would suggest trying one or, see how it feels to hold for calls etc as it can take some getting used to.

My wife has the s3 and there isn't that much difference bergen the two.

As for cases I have a leather flip cover that doubles as a deal stand which is great for movies. Got it from Amazon for 99p plus 3 quid postage. Will dog or the link if anyone needs it

If you find the note or S3 too big, you should consider the S3 mini

There's not really an answer to this as it's whichever you prefer size wise as there's not much else in it unless you particularly like the idea of the s-pen. I've had a Note 1 for about 15 months and I think it's superb, it did feel big for the first couple of days but since then it feels normal and other phones just seem small, I don't use it any differently to the N900 I had before as it fits in all the same pockets. As I spend a lot of time on my phone browsing and watching video the bigger screen very much appeals to me so my choice would be the Note 2 although the S3 may be a safer bet if you're unsure.

Some decent cases;

Just upgraded from a Desire HD and although a great believer in the Case Mate covers - will probably start off with a cheapo one from Ebay and see how I go.

I've been a great believer of el cheapo cases. Imo anything thicker than those 0.3mm ones I find it too bulky. So doesn't leave much room for protection lol. I haven't though about this point when choosing the phone. Tried metal bumpers, tpu s line style ones, Etc.

Im currently on the flip case and 0.3mm case combo. Finding its working well for me.

It's not that much cheaper any more as It is never in stock on the google play store for £280. The only supplies seem to be with the networks who are selling them on contract or £400 PAYG

If you find the note or S3 too big, you should consider the S3 mini

I saw this and thought excellent, a smaller SIII. Did a bit of digging. A few reviews put it about the same as a galaxy advance.

I broke my screen over 12 months ago on a SI and just have not gotten around to finding a replacement thats not to large, or worth spending on to get the difference in performance.

Rumours are of a new nexus phone unveiling at Barcelona next month. Some nice htc, and the S4 too.

Suggesting a Nexus 4 is all well and good, but they're difficult to get hold of unless you want to pay overinflated prices through the network.

The 16GB version is £279 direct from Google. Networks add on at least £100, even as PAYG.

I have the SIII and I like it, a colleague has the Note II and they are virtually the same, except for the size.

It's worth noting that any non Nexus device is at the mercy of the networks and manufactures with regards to Android updates. Samsung for example can take a couple of months to release the updated Android version, whereas all recent Nexus devices are supported for years and almost immediately.

The SIII mini is a poor excuse for a phone, it's underpowered. The SII is more powerful and will give a much better experience.

XDA Developers is the forum you want to visit if you need help with any Android phone.

and the galaxy S4 is on the horizon now - just to make the choice harder ;-)

Ha, just checked my other contract, it's due Feb.. Lol

Phone this time is for the missus, restricted to tmob or ee unless there's a stupidly irresistible price/phone that they can't match.

I'll be looking at S3 vs..

Xperia t, or Sony something.

Nexus - though more than likely it won't be due to availability.

Note 2 (bit on the large side)

Definitely needs to be android, though tempting to try Windows at some point in time.

Nexus supply issues might continue until the updated model appears.

Rumours say they're dropping the 8gb and offering 32gb in line with the tablets.
