Filthy cars

Featured Replies

Today on the way to work (and this isn't a rare sight) I saw at least 2 cars thy were so filthy on the rear end that the rear plates couldn't be read.

How do people get their cars this dirty??? I do a lot of mileage in a tdi fabia vrs and that never gets anywhere near as dirty as some of the pieces of filth I've seen.

Do people actually purchase cars and cake them in crap on purpose? Do some people never wash them?

A bit of dirt is fine, but when the back is just matte grey, it needs a clean surely?

Bad weather, out early / back late every day for a week, doesn't take much. Road salt has a big effect very quickly.

When it's wet round here cars go brown very quickly with the mud on the road.

Also bear in mind that for many people a vehicle is a tool, not a hobby. It doesn't matter what it looks like as long as it gets the job done (one of the reasons I have a Roomster)! :giggle:

I make certain that the lights, windows and number plates are clear but otherwise I'm not so worried. It will get a wash when it's convenient.

My car was clean two days ago.

Current weather and 100+ miles per day means the rear plate will be unreadable in under a week.

Salty/mucky spray covers it quite quickly.

They've yet to invent a speed camera that can read a plate

through dirt... Probably rep cars.

I once let my golf get that dirty and set off every speed camera

along the A40 from Uxbridge into Central London to test the theory.

Needless to say I never got a single ticket.

I wouldt be so brave, they can read the number plate on your tax disk...

I think it also depends on style of car, ive got a 306 winter work shed and the back end gets pitted in no time as the rear wheels are so close the back of the car but in the Octy the rear over hangs the wheels quite a lot so it stays cleaner for longer

Depends on the car and the weather. When it's wet, and mucky I've had mine get unreadable within a couple of hundread miles.

What? A camera pointing at the back of the car can read the number plate on a tax disc? Why wouldnt it read the front plate? How does it even see the front of the car?!

Back on topic, as others have said, a few trips and lack of day light to clean cars and they can easily build up a thick layer of dirt. As Ema said, some cars tend to be worse than others, Fabias are know to be terrible for this.

A gatso can't do this

He mentioned nothing about a rear facing camera, there are front facing (even front and rear facing) camera's

Really want to invest in some rally mud flaps, not only will this keep the back end cool in determined to ruin this 306 :p

Mine is atrocious. Just got no time between the short days, bad weather and little boy. I make an effort to at least clean the lights and plates.

Yeh my taxi is only the road from 6am to 8pm most days and 16-20hrs Fridays and Saturdays and does 600-800miles per week and it hard to wash it every day and it only takes 2-3 days for it to get really dirty. Also in North Queensferry where there is major construction work with the new bridge crossing the Forth it get dirty as soon ad its washed. I sometime travel in the same section 8-10times a day.

I like to try and get the car as filthy as I can. Then the wife gets annoyed and cleans it so that I don't have to.

I love making my car dirty, I like cleaning it too though!

I had a Punto and in 20,000 miles I washed it once.

(^you can see where I rubbed some of the dirt off to apply the sticker...)

When I used to travel up north every weekend I'd often has to clean the lights and number plate when I stopped.

Very rarely was it clean for longer than a few days.

The 500 has only been washed twice since Ive had it, wont wash it again as it will go in as trade dirty.

I just don't understand still how my fabia doesn't get that dirty. I last washed it on New Year's Day and work is 40 miles away and the rear plate is still easily readable. Maybe it's because it's low the dirt flicks up less?

my Yeti is really dirty, was washed three weeks ago, I don't mind so much having a dirty car when the roads are grotty.

What boils my blood is when knobs decide to write in the dirt, original crap like "clean me" if I catch the little bar stewards I swear I will chop there blinkin' fingers off. :@

In fairness I dont think in 6 years of driving I`v ever seen a front plate unreadable from dirt, so I assumed it was the rear, as I see that on a daily basis. That said, I`v still never seen a speed camera that can read a read the writing on a tax disc.

Mines decked and it is no better than before it was lowered.

My fabia was lowered and always had a dirty rear.

I like it dirty.. People tend to think twice before cutting up a manky car..

Said the actress to the bishop!

My Superb get really dirty and at this time of year its filthy a day after washing it but then again I can do 400 miles some days.

Over winter months I get the taxi washed once per week, personal car maybe fortnightly.

Over summer the cars are washed every couple days, hate a dirty car but hate spending money washing motors when they are just gonna get dirty.

Generally I clean my rear plate at the petrol station with a sponge, saves a fine

I really like dirty women. That is all.

The aerodynamics play a big part. A bloke I used to work for had a BMW 330D estate and that would get so dirty you couldn't read the number plate in only an hour or two of driving.
