Insurance, anyone tried CTM.com (meerkats) with mods?

Featured Replies

I did it for a larf.....getting some good prices back though, and wondered if it is accurate

Rather than use my own car and get the insurance wondering I put in quotes for a car I dont own (ficticiously) ....a SE 2007 (yr newer than mine) with suspension mods and mapping

Cheapest elephant 316.9 with 310 excess, w/screen cover, personal accident, courtesy legal

next, diamond, 323.30 with about the same...then the prices get silly

Those prices are good though.....

Just checked further and the assumptions on elephant are Suspension lowered (<5cm) and up to 10% on remap

Change to 25%+ and they wont quote...up to 25% though (about 160hp?) for £370 WITH the suspension

Not bad but the topping out at 25% is a bit of a disappointment.

In comparison though I think Adrian Flux were quoting me around the same as that above with the springs and the only thing extra was standard octy wheels....shows how mainstream insurance can be kind of competitive if you aren't loading too many mods

Hmmm....mind you makes me think its worth having the BLT on the rollers as if its putting out more as standard I'd like to know how much as I don't fancy paying more on the insurance JUST to get BHP level not far out from what I might already have  and puts the remapping idea on standby....I read somewhere that my current insurer is okay for wheels and moderate suspension but not ECU so might check with them when closer to my renewal in April BEFORE I fit the springs

I did tonight, £718 it was coming back at then £818 when I added the mods. Will give them a call on Monday. Heard better things about Admiral though so might pay the extra tenner and go to them :)

You can usually get like for like replacement of mods with a specialised policy, which depending on what you have may or may not be that important.

Edit: Also, I found Brentacre did a thing where you were insured for a certain power level and you could do more mods so long as you didn't go over it without a premium increase.

From the printouts from RRs I've seen there is quite a distinct flat spot in the standard map and then it flicks up right at the end to make the 140-150bhp numbers some people get. With a decent map the powerband will be much larger and so even though the peak numbers might not be a massive increase it will feel significantly faster and smoother too.

DanHam: Elephant are part of the Admiral group anyway :)
