Golf Equivalent ?

Featured Replies

I'm sure the Passat is on the A4, doesn't the A6 draw off the A4 but use more metal inbetween the wheels? Of course you can fit A8 parts to the Passat though..... (including brakes)

Right.

From the What Car website...

Car Lengths (mm):

A4 - 4547

Octy - 4521

Bora - 4376

Golf - 4149

So, Golf is a massive 37.2cm shorter than an Octy.

A4 hides it's length well, IMO.

Did it say how long the Passat was as well?

longer than them all if i recall....

4609 if the website i looked at is right.

Anyway.

I would like a (Touareg) V10 TDI engined Skoda of any kind please. Preferably a 4x4 Octavia. :)

Easy. Skoda's Golf competitor is already out.

It's the Fabia estate (4222mm)!

Who cares what comes from what, I just think the Octys a great car.

You could say the others were prototypes & the Octy was the culmination of years of design & long term testing,

How about Skoda borrowing a Bentley engine & shoe horning it into a Octavia body shell, give it 4 wheel drive & let Jabba fine tune it

stuart

My (lowered, big alloyed) Saab 93 owning mate thinks my vRS is awesome. And so it is :D

IIRC:

Lupo - Arosa

Polo - Ibiza - Fabia

A3 - TT - Golf - Bora - Leon - Toledo - Octavia

A4 - Passat - Superb (extended wheelbase)

A6

A8

looks right to me....

cant wait for a6 equiv... with v10tdi

You just forgot the Beetle on the Golf/Leon line!!!

(Mind you, the Beetle is pretty forgetable!!!)

Steve

Lupo - Arosa

Polo - Ibiza - Fabia - A2???

A3 - TT - Golf - Bora - Leon - Toledo - Octavia - Beetle

A4 - Passat - Superb (extended wheelbase)

A6

A8 - Phaeton - Bentley???

Tourag - Cayenne

Yeah, I was wondering about the A2 and the Phaeton too - wasn't sure about them.

Talking of New Beetles being forgettable - how about this for interior modding? Walked by this today and couldn't resist taking a snapshot...

Check out the seat covers! The flowers! The mirror decoration! :D

Isn't the flower vase a standard fitting on New Beetles?

Never thought I'd see one actually being used, though :)

 Standard?

You've got to be joking!

Oh my God... [insert big-sigh smiley here]

Is that some sort of retro "back-to-the 60's" option pack ?

A4 (shortened), A6, Passat, Superb share the same platform. Otherwise the A4 is very lonely in an economy of scales :) Really though that's what VW says :)

The Toureg/Cayenne share the same platform with the Phaeton/A8. The only Bentley with component sharing is the new GT coupe which shares more with VW's Lambo Gallardo.

Big confuser is the fact that the golfboraoctavialeonTTbeetleA3 platform is known internally as platform "A4" - this is nothing to do with the A4.

The audi A4 floorpan was used for the Passat, and then I believe parts of the passat (structurally) went back to Audi as the A6.... believe the "arc" of the shell etc...

Someone said that the Toureg was actually a stretched (next gen) golf platform.. not sure how much truth in that!

Tavia4X4 the TourAN is based on a stretched new MK5 Golf platform.

Right. Whereas I believe the Passat/etc. platform is internally known as B4, with 4 being the "generation".

So is the next Golf platform known as A5?

Otheos, I will readily believe that the A4 is a shortened Passat - the rear legroom is equally terrible as the Octavia's!

But if the A6 is based on the Passat too, as you state, would that mean that the stretched Superb actually has a bigger wheelbase than the A6? Seems unbelievable...

no, not platform, but upper shell members, the "arc" from window base to bootlid apparently...

(that said, if someone wants to find the wheelbase of Passat \ superb \ A6 it would be interesting.)

Passat: 2.70m

A4: 2.65m

A6: 2.76m

Superb: 2.80m!

Dutch prices:

Passat 1.8 5V Turbo: 29,450 euros

A4 1.8 5V Turbo: 33,990 euros

A6 1.8 5V Turbo: 40,590 euros

Superb 1.8T Classic: 27,230 euros!

I guess our limo drivers are right... :D

So clearly all the same platform.

(slight variations in wheelbase due to susp differences excepted, for instance the 4x4 octavia actually has a longer wheelbase than the FWD cars)
