Columbus update and a few other thoughts

Featured Replies

Took the monster into MSB Skoda (Darlington) today with the Columbus issue described elsewhere. Turns out it needs a new aerial, as several people on here had suggested - a known problem, according to the very helpful service person, and one he says that is about to be the subject of a recall. While there, they fitted me a new rear badge (although signs of the dreaded white worm were minimal) and cleaned the car for me, as well as giving it a quick once over (for free). All in all excellent service, although I shall have to make the 70-mile round trip again next week when they have a new aerial for me.

I was hoping they might have a Yeti L&K for me to look at and to invite an offer I couldn't refuse on my current monster, but no such luck! I'm wondering if it might be a good time to bag what appears to be a goody-laden bargain, given that prices of the 'original' Yeti may drop suddenly when the facelift appears.

While there, we also found that my wife's Citigo is built, and is somewhere between the factory and Emden, but no suggested delivery date yet. I'm hoping the bad weather on the continent, together with the fact that we're away in the week of 18 February, means we may be able to delay first registration until 1 March, although the salesman was quoting the 'must be registered within 10 days of delivery' rule at us!

That is always a good plan to get the best new car deal, discounts do appear on outgoing models however you may find that the most discounted cars may be sold as is, Little choice on colour or options. You get a choice of cars already built or in the pipe as production ramps down.

True, but - colour apart - the L&K has all the toys that you would really want, so I probably wouldn't be ultra choosy (although I do think the L&K would look especially good in Steel Grey, given the additional 'bling'!).

There is always the possibility of the opposite - prices hardening - if fans are faced with the sort of machine that's been widely photoshopped and realise that the real Yeti is slipping from them!

I would guess that the L&K will be the first to sell out. I was looking at an Octy in August when the news of the all new one was known even to my cat, both the L&K and 4x4 versions were being sold as stock only and not orderable over 6 months prior to the new release. As the likely Yeti facelift will be largely cosmetic maybe this won't be the case.

Anyway, you still should get a great deal on the current version, brand new car for a used price. Factory fit extras for cars in the pipe would likely only include those not compatible with the new one.
