  • I've had the Golf MKV bonnet strut fitted for the last 2.1/2 years, works a treat, always draws a comment from the Skoda techies when it goes in for a service.....I'll find some photo's cost me under

......have alook at the thread about the CR170 battery being under sized for the car, that's why I have a very clean battery without a cover, its too big to fit the cover on, I now have a 77AH Silver Varta sat there! the original was too troublesome in the cold and the amount of time that Skoda spent messing about was becoming tiresome so I just bit the bullet, changed it out myself and no problems since!

Well,

Has anyone made any inroads on this?

Having got the strut and ball studs I want to reinforce the bonnet mount and use a 90 degree bracket on the wing mount. Had my brackets made up in stainless but they are at work and I'm not! Will take pics of the install when I get them

Good stuff,

I want to do this but only once.

This is how I did it, no reinforcing needed other than a large flat washer under the slam panel ball joint mount, before anyone starts throwing in the 'it wont last and its not strong enough, it has been like this for 2.1/2 years with zero problems so safe to say it's plenty strong enough!

The fabia mark 1 kit uses the same welded on bracket on the bonnet and there have been no reports of it not being strong enough on its own (in around 7 odd years of use on many many cars) to lift the fabia bonnet. It also uses two 25mm penny washers either side of the actual bracket which probably serves to dissipate some of the forces whilst in use.

Finally got my brackets and to be honest it didn't work out quite as well as planned. Ive fitted it anyway with a view to tidying it up later. Pics:

Looks fine to me! What's up with it?

The bonnet end isnt quite how I wanted it. I planned to sandwich it between 2 of those brackets but I wasn't happy that the thread length on the ball stud was a little short so used just one to brace the side that would carry the load. The inner skin of the bonnet is also incredibly thin so it still flexes quite a bit although it is only under load when the bonnet is up so I don't think it will be an issue.

The Seat set up is very tidy but I don't think the Octavia layout would accomodate them

They do look tidy

Any news on these?

Im just going to buy the milotec one when I get around to it.

Had an idea today.. Has anyone ever checked out the possibility of using one of the boot struts from the Octavia ?

495 length, 198 stroke, so even shorter than the Audi a3 bonnet strut suggested

Has anyone made any progress with these?

Does anyone know what strut and ball studs were used in the youtube video?

I would chance that.

Has anyone else done this mod?

Still interested in this myself

I did it when I got my FL a few years ago.....just order the parts and do it!

Which parts did you get and did you strengthen the bonnet like the Milotek kit did?

Which kit did you go for?

I dont like the Superskoda one with the plate to bolt to the bonnet.

I got it all from SuperSkoda, I think its Milotec branded with the plate that bolts to the bonnet. Done in ten minutes and that was about 4 years ago.
