DIY bonnet lifter

Featured Replies

Hi,

Finally :)

Using a angle bracket (gusset) I've fitted the damper (47 cm long). Works fine and original hook stays ;)

Really like the fact that you don't need to mess with the original bar.

So what parts we need besides the damper? (by the way which damper did you use same as found in the trunk?)

Except damper you need a steel profile, it is easy to find on hardware stores.

and a drill, handsaw, bench clamp, screws... etc

We have tried different dampers from the dealers junkyard, neither a number nor a code was available on it. You can try the trunk damper at first.

The fitted one is 47 cm long from the fixing points (when piston is fully out).

After testing, I've painted the iron profile with matte black spray.

NIce!! I like it.

Did the damper come with the screws on the top and bottom of it?

Does it lift by itself as soon as you open the bonnet from inside or you have to pull it up to a point yourself and then it goes up on its own just like the stock boot does?

Maybe a new damper comes with the screws in the package, but mine was a pre-owned damper, second hand :) No screws on it.

You have to pull it up to a point yourself and then it goes up ;)

I prefer it this way due to security reasons.

Have to say it looks good  nice job
