Well they could turn it off , but then how will their soldiers know where to drop the bombs?

I hope my sat navs more accurate than the US bomb dropping. :D

they can turn off our access to it but they can still use it and the acuracy that they have is quite worrying just a shame they cant aim propperly

There is something wrong with your GPS then. Manufacturers can be liable to face court charges if their products are not up to par in quality. Why the hell would they manufacture a car disregarding the accuracy of the speedometer??

Try race against your radar...go at the max speed limit' date=' and then cross it a little, see what you get. I highly doubt there is somethign wrong with your speedo, it's your GPS that's the problem.[/quote']

At 85mph your speedo could read +/- 2 to 3 mph depending whether you have brand new tyres or worn out tyres as the car speedo just works out speed on the amount of time the driven wheels turn.

I think it's actualy an EU law that speedo's are not allowed to under read so most manufacturers make them over read to allow for tyre wear and other factors.

I'll bet the americans are tackin' us down with this whole conversation of their method of operations and then they'll bomb briskoda...

Please don't bomb us Mr. American soldier man :orb_upset :orb_laugh

In regards to the speedo, I don't think they are inaccurate. I've proved so with my oh-so-loving radars...

did you know if they wanted too the american goverment could just stop us using satnav !! we use the american military satlights for satnav and they can shut it down with no warning if they feel like it

Yep they could but nearly all the worlds shipping use GPS and the worlds airlines also use GPS as well as their more localised beacon system.

I think the US would cause world caos if they decided to turn it off. :)

In which case we'd all have to use the Russian system, which is operational, or the European system when it is all in place. The Yanks don't have a monopoly on global positioning.

my speedo reads about 10-15mph out over 70mph :(

:) Brisk is safe it's hosted in the oil state of the USA :D

me's not daft yer know ;)

Safe from bombs and other things....except me on the console line...oops.

I was doing this test on the way home the other night..I can say it's not that accurate sitting on the A4 at 6pm...9miles in 2 hours, that can't be right?

So by time I got to my airfield I was reading 100 on speedo, but 96 on the gps...

A few years back TG did a test of this - they strapped a load of really accurate kit on a really old car, medium age car and a spanker and all over read more as the speed increased.

Fabia 2.0RS - you have the only 100% accurate mechanical speedo in the world.

the fabia vrs at least isnt mechanical :)

If the same "speedo" is used troughout the Fabia range someone's speedo will be out because of all the differant wheel/tyre/tyre profile sizes 14"-16" wheels 60-45 tyre profiles If a car on 185/60/14 was doing 70mph on the speedo and 70mph on a gps A car on 205/45/16 doing 70mph on the same speedo will be doing 71.6 mph on the same gps

Not sure thats right. The vRS one changes at 90 into 20mph between each notch. i.e. 70, 80, 90, 110, 130, 150. The standard one is 20mph intervals all the way up to 160 IIRC...

The speedo Head may be the same, but the dail's are differant

How could this possibly work if the intervals are different for the different speedos? Am I missing something? :o

I only stated " If " the speedo's were the same on every model and the dials were differant..................I think

You did indeed! :o

The vRS speedo is definitely different to the rest of the range then. No ifs!

I've been out tonight with a mate who's just got TomTom for his iPAQ. My speedo was over-reading by 2-3mph between 30 and 70. My mate's got an Ibiza FR and his speedo accuracy is the same.

I've used Tom Tom GPS on my previous M3 and also my work car Corolla and on both cars the speedos are reading about 5% over.

I've yet to try it on my Fabia. I will give it a go and let you know.

My Octy's speedo reads over by about 4mph at 50mph, approx 8-10%.

i think out of habbit i would try to keep under 40 in a 30 zone, under 50 in a 40 zone and so on, so in reality i am driving nearer the speed limit than i thought. This can't be a bad thing, especially if it prevents me getting penalty points

Did I say it was 100% accurate? I said it was dead accurate, not 100% accurate. When you fire a crossbow into a target and you get the bullseye, that's dead accurate, but if you hit the CENTRE of the bullseye, that's what I call 100%.

Why you gettin' all sarcastic on me? Look man, we have one radar every 400 meters. Each of these radars is meant to flash at above 120....when I drive at 120, I don't get a hit, but there was a time I was at about 121 or 122 kmph (as my '100% accurate mechanical speedo in the world' said), and I got hit.

Now, if you wanna come and try out for yourself, please do. I don't like to bulls**t so if you think I am, come over here and prove me wrong.

Sarcasm is only a step away from insecurity.

So how big's the bullseye on your speedo?

So how big's the bullseye on your speedo?

I can guarantee the speedo on the Fabia is dead accurate.

My figures are approx as follows - comparing with RA2:

True 30mph - Speedo reads 32mph

True 50mph - Speedo reads 53/54mph

True 70mph - Speedo reads 74/75mph

True 94mph - Speedo reads 100mph

So consistently roughly 6-7% overreading

Chill out RS

- sarcasm's a way of life over here, no disrespect intended - don't get upset. :P
