Registration Dates/Plates

Featured Replies

Hi, Does anyone know about car registrations?

I have just taken the plunge and ordered a new fabia and was just wondering at which part in the process the car is considered registered.

If the car is ordered/purchased before the change in plates (March 1st) but not arriving in the country until after the change in plates. Which plate will it be? 56 or 13?

Any ideas? Thanks

It's registered for plates when you want it to be once t has reached the supplying dealer so if it arrives 21st feb you can ask for it to be registered for 1st march and obviously you could not collect it until that date

I ordered my Yeti in Feb, it was delivered the last week of August, the dealer asked if I wanted to leave it with them for one week so it would have been a 61 reg or I could have it as it was on an 11 plate. For the sake of one week I have an 11 plate but the log book states date registered.

It would be a 56 either, it will be a 62 or if later it will be a 13.

It's regisstered and given an age the moment the dealership register it with the DVLA in your name, at which point the plates are issued and put on the vehicle.

If it omes just before 1st March you can ask the dealer to delay it's registration until March 1st to get a 13 plate.

Thats great thanks for the info. So I read from these answers that it is registered by the dealer and certainly not before they take delivery of it.

This is nice to know. Many thanks

Age of the vehicle and registration are two differents things really, as its not unknown in some cases, for a vehicle to be psyically older then its registration dictates.

But as mention vehicles are generally issue a reg number when it arrives to them.

And i thing im right in say dealers have a list of allocated reg plates they can use for the any vehicle to be registered too.

We're currently waiting for the next list to be released to use to our local dealership to pick which we want before we register her. The car has been with them for three weeks but won't be picking it up till 2nd march.

Absolutely!! You could buy a car and leave it unregistered for years

Dealer request a reg no in order for it to be PDI'd; normally at this point the reg plates are attached tobthe car. If your car is delivered near to a plate change date usually no reason why you cant delay it to get the newer plate, fairly pointless really though. Also if you buy a car through Skoda via the VAT free scheme it has to be registered within 10 days of being delivered.

My last cars physical registration date was the day I picked the car up though the car had been wearing its registration date for a day or two already.

Thanks for the info. Don't agree that it's fairly pointless waiting for a newer plate. On the used market that newer plate has a value.

Why god knows as you could end up with to 2008 cars on 08 plate on may be 2008 one could be 2006 ? Would you pay the same price for those ;)

I wouldn't say hanging on a week or two when the car will subsequently be worth a few hundred pounds more come trade in time on the newer plate would be pointless.

Where did you hear this 10 day rule for registering when on VAT-free offer? Certainly didn't apply to me when I bought my car in 2011, dealer held that for me for 2-3 weeks! Some dealers will wheel that out to try and get it reg on the current months sales figures

I think you missed my point. It is consumer led, not my personal belief.

The general rule on internet generated prices is; the newer the plate the better the price.

Therefore if i wait for the newer plate it will be worth a few hundred more at resale time. For right or wrong this is how it is

p.s. I'm not meaning to be rude. You are right in that there is fundamentally no real extra value in the car. But consumers are consumers.

My post was an open opinion at the whole market rather then a pop at you or opinions on it tbh.

I think its crazy tbh but it is what is lol
