Lower silver bumper panel.

Featured Replies

I know this has been covered before and i know i'm not stupid (although after this that might be questioned)I want to remove the lower silver panel to add protection behind it as down here (Spain) large debris from lorry wheels is common and it look's quite vulnerable.Anyway,i can see that it unclip's and it's dead easy to get too but i cant get it started and am worrying about damageing paintwork if i get too enthusiastic.Any tip's would be very much appreciated or am i just being a bit of a girl.

My advice would be to buy a set of Bojo plastic trim removal tools from e bay these are excellent for removing trim with no damage.

I've got a tip, there is no apostrophe in *tips*, or indeed in *unclips* (nor for that matter in *looks*).

Another fellow grammar fanatic like myself. I will not comment on any spelling errors either.

I doubt it, it's only we Brits who make those kind of errors. At least there was no "would of" or "could of"!

Any tip's would be very much appreciated

You might find this thread helpful: http://www.briskoda....wer-grille/.??I bought some mesh myself a few months back but I haven't plucked up the courage to try dismantling my car's front end yet!

Bobdog & Truthseeker: I can be as pedantic as the next man about spelling and grammar but, given that the OP is in Spain, it might be that English is not their first language. If that's the case then I'd say that they've done a pretty respectable job. I well remember that when I lived in Italy I could converse with the locals very happily, but writing - even a simple thing like a note for my cleaner - was much more stressful. I'd be inclined to cut them a little slack in this instance. (Of course, if it were to turn out that the OP is British through-and-through then the only sensible option would be to assault their person with heavy, pointy things until they learn the error of their ways.)

I take your point EJ, and entirely accept spelling and grammar errors from those whose native language is not English. However the misuse of apostrophes is not generally a mistake that 'furriners' (as we call them in Norfolk) make, it is far more commonly an error of the 'natives'. However I was only joshing, as always, and don't mean to upset anybody, and I've dragged this thread way too far off theme - doesn't anybody have an answer to the original question? Must go and sharpen some of those pointy things. :D

Yes, go easy, guys? This was only the OP's second post and hasn't had the time to get to know our funny little ways. I hope he/she stays around long enough to do just that :hi:

Christ almighty.

Staying on topic, from memory there are around half a dozen 'fingers' that need pushing upwards to release it from underneath. Its then pulled forwards and away from the bumper - some force is required but its not a brittle type of plastic. Could you not specify the rough road pack? From experience, Spain is where mine has come in most useful so I'd be gobdsmacked if it wasnt available there?

My preference is for them to be heavy as well as pointy: you get better penetration that way

I think Bohuslav's suggestion of sourcing a set of Bojo trim removal tools was quite helpful. They're trivially easy to find on the bay of E.

The thread I referenced - specifically, this posting - has a pretty clear description from bahnstormer vrs of the job that suzuki1200 wants to do.

Graham, Graham, it wasn't me sir, he said it sir

Sincere apologies from me as well - just joining in the usual banter.

Anyway, myself and TheHood have purchased a proper mesh cover for this aperture from Russia (cost £60 including shipping). Fits in seconds with no need to remove bumper. Might be a sager option rather than trying to remove front bumper if not skilled in such DIY matters. Was discussed in detail on this thread - go to post #266 for photo.

Good question, which nobody has really answered yet.

I tried the same thing earlier, but gave up as it required the removal of the entire front bumper, which looks easy enough except for some fastenings beneath the headlights. Unless there is some trick, like removing the wheel arch linings and attacking from behind, there seems to be a problem for fools like me to get the bumper off :giggle:

The lower part is detatchable from the uppper half, but only when it is off the car. Removing just the lower silver part is not enough, I need to get behind the black plastic behind the silver panel to fit some mesh

Has anyone removed the entire front bumper, and are there any "tricks"?.

I am not an expert in the English language, but I think the conjunctive adverb 'however' when used at the start of a sentence (used twice in your post) should be followed by a 'comma'. Perhaps you should take up Spanish or French lessons to communicate yourself better. I think the world would be a safer place. :giggle:

Bonjour mon petit chou-fleur! The use of the comma is optional in the case you describe, which is why English is so confusing to those whose languages follow stricter rules.

Did you read bahnstormer vrs' posting on the other thread that I linked to? That described how to do the job quite clearly, removing only the lower silver part and installing the mesh behind it.

Oh no! 'However' without the comma means 'in whatever way'; if the meaning is 'on the other hand', it MUST be followed by a comma.

Poor guy, at least 2 people were helpful.

I bow to the superior wisdom of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Schools (surely the guardians of the Queen's English) and shall amend my ways henceforth and forever.

Yes, but not really. The mesh is better behind the black plastic bit behind the silver panel. It appears no-one on here knows how to remove the front bumper.

I guess the poor person has been frightened away now, so we'll never know the outcome.
