Reversing light(s)

Featured Replies

Having taken delivery of my wife's new Citigo this week, I was amazed to see she had two reversing lights! I don't yet know if there are also twin rear fog lights, but this again seems to underline the weird penny-pinching (if that's what it is) of not enabling twin lights on the much more expensive Yeti.

My Yeti has two reversing lamps,

but only one rear Fog lamp, which I believe is the normal way now on all new cars or it might only be Euro spec new cars.

Thought you were only permitted one reversing light and one fog light???

Sure the "other" reversing light comes on or does it just look like a reversing light?

Special outing for m'lady into the Spring sunshine - only as far as Annie on the drive, to count the reversing lights for me. She says' Two', which is what I expected. New for MY13?

Both reversing lights come on, only one fog light is connected though even though they both look like they have bulbs fitted.

2 reversing 1 fog on my 2010 model

Perhaps I have 2 reversing lights then - must check!

one reversing lamp/ one fog, o/s, euro regs - bit of a sod for me as i live in france most of the year and my fog is uk based , solved by the wiring/relay on the tow plug, the relay trips the other lamp when reversing n/s - fog o/s used -- argument euro wise only offside for fog as if 2 lit and o/s fails possibility of a rear end shunt as the shunter may think the n/s(lit) is o/s of vehicle -- doh european thinking??

Anyone with xenons looked to see if t'other one comes on instead when in 'tourist' mode?

Tourist mode is to stop dazzling the oncoming traffic when you drive on the other side of the road, by changing the beam pattern you don't need to put shading stickers on the lenses.

Only one rear fog lamp is wired up! so it does not swap over.

Just had a "play" in the drive. As above, the touristmode flattens the beam, it also puts a bit more light to the right (had not noticed that before), still only the drivers side rear fog lit.

If the EU argument euro wise only is offside for fog as if 2 lit and o/s fails possibility of a rear end shunt as the shunter may think the n/s(lit) is o/s of vehicle. I am suprised we do not have to disconnect ours when abroad as they are exactly as the hazard described.

perhaps we(uk/ireland)being offshore europe are not expected to cross the little strip of water??

other solution, in europe drive in reverse everywhere - that'll work then!!

My Yeti has always had two reversing lights!

I asked my MoT garage about the rear fog lamp regulation as you guys had got me thinking. I once added an extra fog lamp to a Peugeot 106 I owned and wondered now whether it was legal. Apparently for the UK MoT test two rear lamps is acceptable but if the near side lamp does not work you can still pass with the off side unit only. Two would seem to me to be better (especially if you are travelling in Europe in the winter). My question is, where are all these regulations written down so that the public can check?

Well said Johann!

+1!

Thanks for the links guys, very useful and interesting.

Clearly Johann you don't get so much fog in London! And we don't get the same level of nose to tell traffic out in the country either :-).

I should have made it clearer that the Peugeot was used to drive to France where of course the rule is for the fog lamp to be on the other side of the vehicle. It was also very easy to fix - just add a bulb! For these circumstances it seemed for me that having two was better than one.

I was rallying in France a few years ago and the event regulations made it clear that a fog lamp had to be fitted to the left hand side of the vehicle to pass scrutineering. Otherwise I would agree with you - for general driving in the UK, one is enough.

Bigger text next time please as most members on here are of an age when they need glasses - for the above text though I needed a magnifying glass! :sun:

Same for me - sorry

But it doesn't have to be that big!!

Why not just use the standard format that automatically comes up?

Don't knock it! Works for me. :nerd:

Re Reversing lights: Both lights work (or should do so) on the UK Yeti.

Re rear fogs: The lamp holder for the left hand rear light cluster is exactly the same unit as used in the right hand cluster, but inserted upside down. So, the supplier merely supplies one unit, with all the bulbs inserted, and Skoda fits it into either side without having to think about them being "handed".

The difference is the multi connector in the car's wiring loom. There's no contact or wire for the LH fog light in the plug for UK production, and it is this that determines whether the bulb works - or not.
