Can't wait to see one properly!!

I can confirm the panoramic roof on the Octy estate DOES open!

Looks like one of these roofs does not open and the other does, they're different sizes aren't they?

"The electric

panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof is also available for the new ŠKODA

Octavia Combi. In the Combi, it is made up of two parts. The front part can be tilted and

shifted electrically, while the rear part is fixed. The entire roof module is made of tinted,

heat-insulated glass and is 1,362 x 870 mm in size. The glass will reflect 95 per cent of

irradiated heat and 93 per cent of irradiated light."

Ah right, I'll give this a try later today.

In the Octy II it's only completely flat from tailgate to front seats if you have the fancy variable floor (like in my elegance) otherwise there's a 2(?) inch bump/step when you get to the seats, though they will be flat (like in my vRS)

Assuming you went for the Elegance model and the uplift was, say, £1.5k over the Hatch - then you could get the winter pack, 18" alloys, CANTON and sunroof for £25.4k.

Is the DAB standard? It appears to be?

Yep, DAB is standard. I just mentioned it as I'm also looking at other cars as well and on some of them it's an option.

I'll have to wait and see what the price difference is. If it's not too much (under £1k on the Mk2?) then I could possibly squeeze it in.

It looks like there's a larger two piece sunroof on the estate as well, which could cost more than the hatch which would make it even trickier.

I'll just have to wait and see what the proper price list looks like, not to mention actually driving the car :D

I hope thats a pre production one! Id just like the chrome strips to line up and be the same depth fore and aft of the rear door frame - is that asking too much?! (see 0:35 in the video)

Looks really nice to my eyes though. Lets get the full model line up confirmed and see what engines are available with the 4x4. :)

Got my hatch test drive booked for 16/3, though I favour the estate. Hopefully driving the hatch would be good enough for me to order the estate without a drive, otherwise it is going to be too late for me to get one by early July when my company car is due to be changed. And that might be pushing it. SUK told me the estate would be out late May / early July.

And is it just me, or does the standard Elegance screen look really cheap with that grey border round it ("Amundsen" satnav). I am normally happy with my TomTom and its Live service, but I might have to pay for the "Columbus" to get the 8" 800 x 480 screen instead of the standard 5.8" 400 x 240.

Image here (Tried to embed the picasa image the way I have before, but the forum is saying "An error occurred - You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community." for a JPG! )

I see what you mean about the Amundsen - I couldn't justify the extra for a Columbus though.

I'm not in any rush as I'm currently opted out of the car scheme and can (in theory anyway) rejoin at any point so I don't mind waiting for the estate if that's what I want.

I doubt you'll have any problems driving the hatch though - I can't see that there's going to be much difference in how they handle and we know the boot will be better.

Yes, it would be a shame to have to pay for the better screen - I reckon it would cost me about £14 a month (inc effect on tax) with a 36 month lease. And I know which display I would rather see for 36 months...

That's what I thought.

Here's a nice aerial view of the hatch and estate, both with sunroof.

The estate one looks longer, but the hatch is pretty good still.

I think they've purposely mis-priced the Rapid to ensure that the New Octavia sells well - these look great!

A further thought occurred to me today...

The 1.4TSI petrol engine is a smidge faster than the 2.0TDI, and although the emissions are higher it's still the same BIK figure as you don't have the 3% diesel surcharge. Fuel consumption isn't a worry as I'd have a fuel card, and neither is a DPF any more.

That saves me £1750 which easily covers the cost of an estate.

Very good point Doc.

However, non-vRS means no independent rear suspension (if you can live with that).

Sports suspension is a cheap option to add to an Elegance....

Every time I hear of the VAG 1.4 petrol I think of the unit fitted to the Fabia Vrs which can have an addiction to drinking oil.

Is this the same engine fitted to the Fabia?

This will most likely be the new 1.4 TSI, Turbo only I think? I could be wrong, but the original golf GT had the 1.4 Turbo & Supercharger lump...then it was the Fabia/Ibiza/Polo?

Ah, but does that give you independent rear suspension, or just lowered ride height?

I don't think anyone knows for sure yet.

On the Octy II, it was just lowered suspension and stiffer springs; but then the Octy II had IRS throughout the range.

Does anyone want to have a guess at the OTR for a vRS combi? The Elegance hatch prices would suggest a hefty increase over the last model. Did someone say that the Octy 3 Elegance replaces the L&K? Cheers

I've read an extra £800 for the Combi / Estate.

For the much better looks (IMO) & extra space, I'd say that's a bargain!

Hmm it's not bad looking, in fact it's quite nice but then the octy has never been a looker in my eyes though the mk1 has something about it. This looks very similar to a C class or an A4. I guess I'm in a minority here!

Mine is a hatch and very-well specced.

Add £800 for the combi, and then probably a further £4k for a similar spec, and I'd say you're looking at c.£30k pre-discount (bear in mind that is fully-loaded).

With discount, I'd say a vRS CR combi with many options ticked will come in around £25-26k; TSI about £1500 cheaper.

Still a bargain IMO when you compare it to other marques, and if the perceived quality (from reviews, photo's and comments on here) turns out to be reality.

Blimey! My company basic spec combi vRS cost just over £22k (excluding discount) in November 2011. If estimates are correct for the equivalent Octy 3 vRS then I'm stuffed! Can't see me getting into a hatch either :(
