Octavia III Scout?

Featured Replies

I'm new here so apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I can't find any information on an Octavia MKIII Scout. Will it exist? is there any info yet? If so when's it's launch date?

I am in the market for replacing a Subaru Legacy, and on paper the current Scout looks Ideal. It would be stupid not to see if there is new version though before taking the plunge!?

Apparently a new Scout is due in 2014. Am looking forward to seeing it but there are few details. Could be interested in one to replace the vRS when the time comes.

Hmm, thanks Sarge, that's quite a long wait. I might have to look closer at the Scout current version. Or there is the Passat Alltrack, but they seem quite pricey!.

There's always the Superb 'Outdoor'.

Passat Alltrack is a poor imitation of the Skoda Scout IMO and is the reason why Skoda haven't been allowed a proper Superb Scout. Booo

Dodgy, I had missed the Superb Outdoor. I'll have a look at it!.

The Super B Scout ...Sorry OutDoor...looks pretty good to be fair :)

But can you order the Superb with the raised suspension and underbody protection?

I don't think so. It's basically a normal 4 wheel drive superb with some extra body mouldings.

I had a look at this myself. There are no offroady features to the Outdoor. Unless you want to pay a few thousand more for plastic trim, its the same as the regular 4x4 Superb.

Get a 4x4 Superb from Ireland with "Rough Road package" option, it'll work out less expensive and you will get genuine underbody protection. The Outdoor is just looks only and not worth the money if you actually need a car for terrain/poor quality road use.

Also, fuel tank is 20% (30% vented) bigger on the diesel 4x4 Superb than it will be on the Octy 3, at least from what's announced so far.

In general, even if there is an Octy 3 Scout, it's likely to be another Outdoor fake. Chances for it having actual HD suspension and reinforced underbody covers are very slim, as SUK consistently omits Rough Road Package from the options list, even more so since the Yeti introduction :(

Since the Alltrack has been mentioned, Ill add that it does have offroad suspension and steel underbody protection, from what I've seen of it and is priced near the same nearly-new as the Superb.

If like me you are after a "normal" car, just with underbody covered, a minus point for the Alltrack is that the gearbox is shortened, just like with Allroad versions of the Audi. Might be good in terrain, not so good for fuel consumption at speed.

Herschel, find a forum you can write abusive posts all day, hopefully, it will no longer be this one.

Why do you think Passat Alltrack has a 70l fuel tank when a standard one is 60l? As do many offroaders. Allroad used to have 80l vs 65l

The reason is simple, a car intended for cross-country use may be away from local petrol station for more than a few weeks at a time, driving less accessible areas.

The fact that I require bigger fuel tank for my (often poor quality road, but not offroad) driving is a coincidence, so why won't you keep your immature comments to yourself. Not everyone drives only to shops.

Erm, I posted nothing about my car requirements other than I want a standard car plus underbody protection, something that is evidently useful even on UK roads after this winter. And I posted that only as a counter-argument to shortened gearbox, something a prospective Alltrack buyer might seriously consider and not be aware of as it is not widely advertised, you only see it at top speed or if you dig really deep for gearbox ratios. Typical use of an allroad/altrack/rough road package is actually when you have a mix of poor road/all terrain and motorway driving, If you drive slow, SUVs and dedicated offroad cars offer better ground clearance.

You do not see where your posts are abusive? Last time I checked, repeatedly mocking other forum members was abusive, you were part of earlier locked threads and frankly did not contribute much else than mockery. Sense of humour can only go so far.

Looking at my comments in this thread, they offer a balanced source of information for someone considering a Scout and/or Alltrack. Your post added no facts but mockery. Note also that I suggest buying another Skoda, a Superb Mk2 rather than a selection of non-Skoda cars that increasingly look like good options given recent SUK pricing.

I will come back to fuel tank point on an all terain car, here is a short list for you:

Passat Alltrack 70l

Skoda Superb 2 with Rough Road package 60l/(65l vented diesel)

Audi Allroad 75l

Subaru Legacy Outback 65l

Skoda Octavia 2 Scout 60l

Skoda Octavia 3 50l

Notice anything? Without my requirements clouding your judgement... Note also all-terain cars might be equipped with parking heater to serve as a working space for a surveyor/engineer etc. At 0.5l-1l / hr heating, a 50l tank is barely enough for a working week, not counting the driving... I also look forward to your comments regarding perfectly adequate Octy 3 fuel tank size during the next fuel protests....

Thanks for the interest in my question everyone! I hadn't realized it would be such a hot topic. As my current Subaru legacy is a standard legacy not an Outback it has limited off road capability. It has under sump protection, permanent 4WD and poor fuel consumption (28-30 mpg).

I could do with a bit more off road capability as I often drive up the Alps from the uk to an old farm I have there. It would be nice to get there on one tank, its around 650 miles door to door. Sometimes I arrive and have to ditch the car and wade through 2-3 feet of snow for the last half a mile. In fact I'm here now and the car is quarter of a mile away. Never a dull moment!. Not many cars can handle that, but I do need a bit more off road capability for when it's not too snow bound here.

The Octavia Scout is a good size I don't need anything bigger, it's just me, my wife and a dog. The superb looks great, but I need a bit more off road capability. If the Octavia III Scout is as good as the current model I'm sure it would be perfect. Otherwise its probably still the Alltrack. The reason I'm not considering a new Subaru Outback is because there is no diesel auto version (the petrol engine, same as mine is v. thirsty as mentioned) and the 2010 Outback is ugly as sin (IMO).

Any way lets hope the Octavia III Scout is a proper bit of kit and doesn't take too long to emerge. Otherwise perhaps a used low mileage current Scout.

Where in the Alps is your farm paddypaws? We drive to Verchaix (near Morzine) every summer, it's a bit of a pipe dream of ours to also own our own place.

Hello Dodgy I'm in the Chartreuse valley national park halfway between Chambery and Voiron. In the middle of nowhere really, but that was exactly the point, to get away from it all!

I had a look at this myself. There are no offroady features to the Outdoor. Unless you want to pay a few thousand more for plastic trim, its the same as the regular 4x4 Superb.

But in the nordic countries you can apparently order both for the superb. Raised suspension and underbody protection.

I tried to get 3 things on a new 4x4 superb order here.

Manual gearbox, raised suspension and underbody protection.

Couldn't get any of them, but luckily found a used scout for half the price with all of them.

here in Germany you can order a "rough road" packet with raised suspension different dampers and underbody protection on the standard octy for €180. but not if you want 17-18 inch wheels

here in Germany you can order a "rough road" packet with raised suspension different dampers and underbody protection on the standard octy for €180. but not if you want 17-18 inch wheels

That's exactly what I tried to order. I even had the option code.

But you-know. They couldn't even do a manual gearbox.

Bloody hell!

mate!.

(for the benefit of our antidipodian cousins)

I would like that German "rough road" spec = raised with underbelly protection on sensible tyres on normal rims

all for 180 euro

Thats a No-brainer

before you get too excited. go skoda germany's configurator and see how much the rest of the car costs compared to UK.!!
