Refurb front Splitter - Lot of work but more unique !

Featured Replies

One of the first mods I did on the car was the obligatory Cupra Front Splitter, later on after discovering Carbon Fibre Film I took it off and covered it in the film.

But that was about two years ago, and due to parking mistakes over high curbs and also the odd slight bump into raised ground it was now starting to look past its prime.

As you can see there are some splits in the carbon film now. so removed it to recover it.
Unfortunately I then had an idea which made the process take a lot longer than expected.

After

A lot of work, for not much, but it's now a pretty unique front splitter !

All I did to make it was first cut a piece of mdf to the shape required then glued and screwed it to the splitter.

To make it more secure I wrapped it with some fibreglass mat that I had lying around then started to add body filer to get the shape I wanted.

Then after a lot of sanding

Half covered in carbon fibre film

The finished article ready to be fitted to the car (I also added some helicopter tape to the bottom to protect it a bit)

Cheers. Not really as long as you think - took about 5 hours to do, and then cover with film (2 hours)

Cheers Charlie, see you there, remember what I said about you needing a splitter hint hint

I'm thinking about a splitter. Need to respray it first though. The lower part of the bumper is in a horrible state. Will look awful if I just put the splitter on it at the moment :)

Now real carbon fiber would look good - match the grill B)

You just can't leave it alone it would take you 2 weeks to put it back to standard if you sold it.

Another fine mod keep them coming

Regards whoosh

That would be the idea B)

Would need to watch out for low kerbs though

Cheers Davy, still have all the bits to revert it back to standard, but as you say would take a while now. To be honest normally would have changed it in the middle of last year as usual (after 3 years of ownership), but this ones a keeper and can't see me changing it in the near future. As for future mods, still working on the mirrors so watch this space LOL

Did look at this http://www.carbonmod...MUNSPLT001.aspx a while ago but could not justify the cost.

As you say high kerbs would be a problem.

Karl

Yeah that is quite a bit. Don't like the metal supports either :(

My mate has just had his splitter carbon 'dipped', I was a bit dubious at first but after seeing the finished product it really does look smart and like legit carbon!

Love the splitter - hate the fairy lights :)
