Citigo DAB (and Mii,Up)

Featured Replies

Thinking might go citigo due to less miles. Likely 75ps Elegance.

However no integrated DAB radio on the RCD 215 or even as an option.

SEAT Mii and VW up the same.

VW stating DAB on all models from Polo onwards.

So what gives? Brand new car and yet spoilt for a few pennies.

I do not want external fit DAB as lived with Pure Highways for years.

Just fitted JVC DAB60 in our yaris for some integration.

And yes this is enough to stop me buying this car.

OK then. See ya.

Hardly the most pleasant or helpful post of the day..........

VW exclude the Up! as its smaller than the Polo. WOuld be nice if all cars had DAB now but I guess something has to give, cost wise, on their smallest, cheapest offerings.

I thought swmbo's radio WAS DAB! lol.... I know it shows programme details, like who the DJ is and the name of the show ect... didn't think that was available on FM..... it also has no interferance noise at all....

of course I'm probably wrong! lol...

Yeah, FM radios do that now...

I can understand them not speccing DAB as standard to keep the cost down but they could at least make it optional - gives the customer a choice and them more revenue by listing as a chargeable option.

I'm sure thats what RDS is? Radio Data System, or RDS, is a communications protocol standard for embedding small amounts of digital information in conventionalFM radio broadcasts. RDS standardizes several types of information transmitted, including time, station identification and programme information.

:)

Cracked me up :)

I read somewhere that dab is no longer the so called future of radio due to limited stations in certain areas

For example I can only get 10-15 dab stations in my area yet my mate who lives 15 miles away can receive 20 odd

Its a situation that occurs all over Europe

So what's the solution

Xfm style internet radio ???

It comes down to data connection and speed and cost

Again I still say they missed a huge trick by not having an android based pid

When radio listening is 99% Planet rock and Jazz FM it is daft to offer all this media stuff with the PID yet not offer DAB even as an option.

May be outdated from its inception campared to DAB+ but its works. and despite a hatred of MP2/MP3 is does sound good in a car environment.

I think it very strange that someone would choose a new car based on the type of radio it has?

Its like people who won't buy a new car if it does not have cup holders.

Are they not missing the point ?

I guess it depends on how important those features are to the purchaser. Certainly if there were a couple of key features missing from my proposed purchase and the competition had them I'd be thinking twice at least.

For example I can only get 10-15 dab stations in my area

Only?!

I can only get 7 FM stations down here in deepest darkest Cornwall (and some French ones on a clear day!)

DAB is a dead end.

Internet Radio will most likely be the future. Streamed over 3G/WiFi etc

I tend to agree with this... some of the higher end cars, are all wi-fi now, mercs , jags, ect ect ... this will filter down to more mainstream cars... every gadget in the car including the car itself will be wi-fi enabled, internet radio will rock

edit, if your smartphone has wi-fi, you could simply use the aux socket now, and stream hundreds of internet radio stations in digital quality.

Agree as above Internet radio will be the way DAB is dead before its really started here

Yeah, Dab is dying, some of the commercial groups are already pulling out, it will probably only be BBC radio stations one day.

As has been said, you can get the "tune in" radio app on your smartphone and listen to thousands of stations through the aux socket anyway.

Is 3G/4G good enough now to stream radio whilst on the move?

Guess it will be the same like with DAB in that it will take time to spread over the whole country but will be cool when it does.

Wouldn't be fussed with dab myself. The radio is the lowest part of my tick list.

The Audi A1 has the option for the car to be a mobile internet as does the toyota yaris.

I saw an up with a Pure Highway 300di fitted. I've tried running the Tunein app on my phone and the data is definitely NOT on a robust enough signal for on the move listening even at the lowest possible bit rates, also it will be expensive on a regular plan. I fitted a DAB radio to my Fabia and would support the OP in that if you want something enough it is enough to turn you away from buying a car if you spend a lot of time in it. Without joining in the usual DAB debate it's more about the stations you currently listen to and what is available now, not in the future.

Also the rcd215 is I believe a single din unit and there is a fascia that comes with it. You may be able to get the fascia on it's own to allow you to fit your own radio. However I assume that if you did this you would loose a lot of the PID features.

Erm I would like to add I reckon Internet radio is the future

I listen to it in my citigo, what I have is a 3 phone unlimited internet (problem is 3 signal isnt the best) use blue tooth to PID and TuneIn radio and bobs your uncle :)

So question changes to why no Wifi in the Citigo? As long as I can just press a preset button for a channel that would be fine.

Internet radio currently is a massive fail as I don't use or need mobile phone.
