pd150 hybrid where from

Featured Replies

Hi guys been looking around for a pd150 hybrid for my vrs and not sure where is best to get 1 that comes with all gaskets etc for a good price any one any opinions preferably with everything i need thanks

Good price isn't really an option. They are all approaching £1k to buy outright. At least your old turbo will be worth £250 odd in good working order.

Turbo Dynamics is probably the best place for a hybrid, but you ought to also consider the budget turbo kits from Darkside Developments as you can get the same power levels without stressing the turbo as much.

Turbo dynamics are about the cheapest

Theres also

Cr turbo's

Turbo techincs

Midland turbo

Plus lots more

Heard bad things about turbo dynamics but thats internet talk i suppose cheers ill check them out

Thats rubbish

I had a turbo dynamics stage 2 on my old one and its still going now! Turbo's done in excess of 80k i would imagine by now!

wouldn't bother with a hybrid when you can get a GTB turbo fitted and mapped from £1500

Pass was on the car when i got it!

You can get gaskets etc from skoda wont be that bad!

My one was a stage 2 from turbo dynamics

Hybrid pd150's are more than enough on a fwd car, to use the gtb darkside kits to their full potential you need to spend mega mega wonga

Injectors

Atb diff

Big brakes (possibly brembo's)

The 150 hybrid has still got a lot of go about it and is basically a like for like upgrade and not too unreasonable either

No darksidedevelopments £1500 drive in/out service is the gtb17's good for 200/230 bhp depending on which one.

All fine without injectors diff and brembos

How does a GTB fair against a hybrid is it actually quicker? what are the differences?

GTB turbos are larger, produce more power, but further up the rev range. I keep thinking about a GTB turbo, but then I think how much time I'd spend waiting for the turbo to spin up and make some power so think again :D For road use, I still think a hybrid is the best route, until I'm persuaded otherwise. Instant power near enough anywhere in the rev range.

Darksides "kits" are crafty, sell it as a 230bhp kit but forget to tell you you need a clutch & intercooler to actually run the power.

Where have you heard its laggier low down than a hybrid VNT17? :) In my opinion the budget GTBs can still produce good low down grunt.

Thanks mate.

Hybrid is the easier option for me to far for me to drive down lol i have the fmic and clutch is on route do i need any oil lines or are they the same as the 130 granted the 150 needs clocked

I think id still go for a hybrid 150 unless i had mega bucks and went for a gtb capable of 300 bhp!

For 220bhp which is more than enough id go hybrid 150

Is a VNT17 a Hybrid PD150? I'v spoken to one or two people who were not impressed with the turbos performance compared to a 150. Plus the various graphs I'v seen, 3,000rpm for power on a diesel that only revs to 4.500rpm isnt for me. I AM open to being show otherwise though, before I seriously think about going down the slightly boring 1.8t route next year.

The GTB1756 is perfectly driveable and starts boosting low down, then pulls harder, higher up the revs. I remember comparing the graph to a hybrid one and they are very similar. Anyone with a hybrid fancy swapping cars for a spin?lol..

Also like previously mentioned, you would be running a stock turbo and reducing the risk of it eating itself.. Ive heard of some hybrids lasting 100k+ and some only a few. I havent heard of any of the GTB's blowing up as of yet, granted they havent been around as long.

Yup - VNT17 is a PD130/150, depending on the model. A hybrid PD150 is thereforw a hybrid VNT17. I'm not anti hybrid stock turbos, as I ran an Allard VT2 (basically same as a stage 2 pd150) at 221bhp happily for a couple of years. I just know the GTB "budget" kits are as good low down, but have better top-end. I suppose this is because for the same XXX bhp, a hybrid is being pushed fairly hard, whereas the GTB is still a "stock turbo" being used in a non-stock situation - make sense? :D

I was very happy with my "stock" GTB2260vk for two years, Stock turbo pushing 275 bhp? Thanks very much. I just got a bit bored with it hence the new upgrade to hybrid it.

Maybe this will help others. What is the typical cost of a hybrid Pd150 fitted with all the bits and bobs that need changing?

We know that a DS kit costs £1500-£1600 then VAT. The Darkside kits are very good value for what they give!

Well, in theory you should get the stage 2 bought and fitted for a grand. Does the DS kit include mapping to suit? The stage 2 hybrid would want custom mapping, preferably from the moment it is fitted. Add on £400 then?

Personally I would look to this when a service is due as its pretty comprehensive for a fitted and mapped kit. £1,800 all-in though, but you get a damn good downpipe, 4 bar MAP sensor, a complete oil change and the custom mapping, which I think is worth £800 over the price of a stage 2 VNT17 hybrid, and thats before you factor in mapping too.

Mapping is included in the Darkside price too, they said they'd even modify my current down pipe to fit a GTB turbo. I'm currently considering either DS kit or a hybrid :)

It seems good. It would be interesting to see a dyno plot of the same car converted from stage 2 PD150, to a GTB1756vk.

I would imagine it to be like this. Basically slightly more power higher up, holding for longer from the GTB, and the torque being similar'ish, but a bit more, higher up (which = more based on the rpm x 4545 formula)

My hybrid 150 developed peak bhp at 3950rpm so doesnt drop off all that much! Still pulled to the limiter no problem
