Boot Light

Featured Replies

There are a few luxuries I miss on the otherwise perfect little Citigo, a temperature gauge, a dashboard panel I could see, one touch windows and a boot light.

Thought you may be interested in this..... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001ASSGZW/ref=fb_lfb_prodpg_0

A magnetic 24 bulb LED that also has a useful foldaway hook.

I ordered mine on Monday, it was delivered FREE on Tuesday, including batteries for just £2.19 !!!!!

Enjoy.

Funny enough I was just thinking about this the other night. Its not something I checked to see if there was a boot light. To be fair the cost I feel its a little penny pinching especially on the elegance spec.

temperature gauge... I have the PID, which can be configured to display the water temp in a big dial.

Whilst it is easy to read I soon got bored with it. The engine warms up so quickly it nearly always reads 90.

There will be warning lights if the engine coolant overheats, and these days water systems never seem to leak from one year to the next, so I just ignore the fact that there is no temp gauge.

Anyway I'd rather have an oil temp gauge, that's more useful. Some fabia's don't have temp gauges just a warning light for cold and hot.

Thanks GILLIGAFF! Just ordered two of these for when mine arrives!

I have the boot light in the first post, you only need one and the magnet holds onto the boot wall very well.

i got a little phillips led light with three bulbs and a motion sensor.. stuck it on the wheel arch and it works a treat. the light doesnt come on when the boot is opened only when you place a bag , hand or whatever into the line of site of the sensor. .

I have plans to fit the same type of boot lights that are in my Ocky. I ordered a 4 light kit and wiring from Ebay and will fit one each side just under the boot lid stops on the plastic molding (like the LED one fitted to the UP link). I plan to run the wiring to the interior light which activates when the boot is open. I have sourced the same connectors that fit the interior light (male and female) so no cutting the cars loom. Will post pictures when complete.

Interested in links for the parts if you have any. Especially the connectors as most cut into the wiring.

Have a look at the following link for VW/Skoda connectors and terminals. http://www.passatplus.de/umbauteile/stecker/stecker.htm

893 971 633 is the one that fits the interior light pins 3-7211 looks close to the original

893 971 993 is the FM version for above. pins 3-8060 looks close to the original

I don't like buying the terminals with the wires attached and then crimp so I have source some terminals from Vehicle Wiring Products that look the same as the VW own and I can crimp the wiresdirectly onto the terminal of my choice http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/terminalsnonins/mouldingterms.php

I have just completed the boot lights on my Citigo. I used a couple of Ocky boot lights that I got as a foot well kit for a Golf http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-FOOTWELL-LIGHT-FOR-VW-GOLF-JETTA-MK5-MK6-TIGUAN-MAGOTAN-5ND-947-415-/151029585905?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item232a1097f1 (Still have two lights spare if anyone interested).

Basically I took a Red/Black and Brown/ Black wire from the front interior light and passed it down the LHS A pillar. Then down behind the bonet release and under th carpet towards the back of the car. Under the trim on the rear seat edge and into the back of the boot. I took another set of wires from the left hand side under the rear seat and up to the RHS of the boot. about 7.5m long each (with a lot of slack). the rear lights were cut into the side mouldings.

Now I hate Scotch clips and insulation tape so I found the following connectors (Skoda) and blades (Vehicle Wiring products) to make up a Y harness so no cutting of the wiring loom was necessary and if it needs to be removed no one is any wiser (apart from the holes where the boot lights would have been).

The only additional connector and blades not on the connector list needed are

Female connector (2 wire) used at the interior light end

Socket 3B0 972 712 (Skoda)

Blade to suite 3-8010 (VWP)

Cost is around £12.80 for the wires and terminals. Skoda Connectors is around £11.00 and the light set was £23.00

I did not use the original 5w bulbs. Instead i used a couple of LED bulbs which are as bright and do not create as much heat.

This is a better light since it has a darkness and movement sensor and auto shut off. It comes on as soon as you open the boot door and few seconds after shutting it (no motion) it shuts itself. i have one in my Aygo. Works well and battery lasts for ever.

I too can vouch for this one. Only works when the ambient lighting levels are low enough and you can fit it where you want. One light is more than bright enough.

Thinking of doing as Owens has done. Great write up thanks. Also want to put a glovebox light in too. My Octavia had these and I miss them.

Has anyone got any pictures of the Philips in situe and how well it lights the boot? I assume you just use the magnets to stick on the exposed wheel arch?

Yes they stick on the metal part very well. Mines not a Philips one. It's just a 15 LED round one. Works very well and is bright enough.

I got a round magnetic light with a load of LEDs on ot from Sainsburys for £3.99 does the job perfectly :-)

The Philips Spot-on is very good. I stuck some Velcro onto the back (the plastic hook part) and it fixes onto the backrest of the rear seat ...at the top. Points downward into the boot perfectly. Comes on automatically only when there's motion AND low light. You don't even know it's there...until it lights up. Was only £6.99 when I got it from Amazon.

Got my boot lights yesterday,2 led fittings from poundland for the sum of eh,£1-00 believe it or not. Will give them a try and see how good they are.Can always change later if no use.

Nice idea thanks, i have 2 of these but stuck to the wheel arch with the magnets. They are good but not in the right place so off to B&Q later for some velcro.

Got the exact same one as DILLIGAFF. Works perfectly fine.

....but it doesn't come on automatically when you open the hatch. Couldn't be doing with having to switch it on and off all the time!

This is my boot light I got off eBay. Round 15 led magnetic with sensor. As soon as I open the boot it comes on in the dark or low light and goes out after 20 secs then senses movement and comes on again. Very bright light and enough to illuminate the whole boot.

Uses 3 AAA batteries (supplied)

That looks really good. Super bright and the motion sensor seems sensible.

On the Santa list as my Citigo is going to be a 2014 experience...

Fitted boot lights to wife’s Citigo at the weekend. Not too much of a problem. Bit of a hassle routing the cable from one side to the other under the rear seat. Really pleased with how they come out. Connected up to interior light so they come on with door opening or boot opening
