Dying Fabia VRS Seats

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm starting to have enough of cleaning the seats every few months in order to get rid of the water marks so I was wondering, would it be possible to use some kind of fabric dye to stain the seats a different colour? I think medium or dark grey with the black centers will look great, has anybody done this before?

Are there any companies in the South Wales area where I could get this done professionally as I'm worried that by doing this myself it might cause a blotchy appearance and ruin my seats!?

All comments and suggestions welcome!

I'd be happy to have mine all black! Hope someone knows if you can

What a good idea..hopefully this topic will get off the ground!

I sprayed the roof liner in my old leon from gray to black with upholstery spray. Basically you spray on rub in and leave to dry. Looked well on the roof anyway. Im half afraid to try the seats because once you start you are committed to doing them whatever they come out like!!

This has been covered briefly before, I'm sure someone has done it but I can't remember if the results were any good lol.

Try a search for it dude.

Be cool if you find someone in south wales i would be interested in getting mine done to.

Wouldnt want to spray like headlining/parcel shelfs as its a bit different sitting on it and in and out. It would most likley wear of or mark clothes.

I tried a search but couldn't find a definitive thread containing which product would be perfect for the job and a few photos of the final result in a Fabia VRS.

Two products have been suggested here in the past, however, I'm unsure of the overall finish and longevity of these products:

Dylon Washing Machine Fabric Dye - http://www.amazon.co...-keywords=dylon

Upholstery Fabric Spray - http://www.amazon.co...k/dp/B002664ASY

I can't see the fabric spray lasting long with getting in and out of the car several times a day and dealing with rain from time to time but something similar to Dylon could be an option. I'm not sure how strong the product will be and also, how it would react with the stain resistant material used for the Fabia VRS seats.

Ask if anyone has a knackered seat cover they could donate to see if it works :)

Someone has done this before I'm sure of it.

Good shout dan. You can put it through some extreme test too just to make sure it will survive.

I've got a rear base somewhere i will donate towards this if that helps?

Got a feeling even the dylon would leach out :(

You need a special dye for synthetic materials, and it has to be literally boiled

into the fabric in a big pan on the cooker.

Dylon do a basic range of colours in their i-dye poly range.

I'd imagine these would be the most suitable for the seat covers

from a fabia. As luck would have it they do black but the other colours

aren't particularly inspiring. There are more choices of colour in the i-dye range

but I suspect the i-dye poly will be the one that works best on this particular fabric.

As already suggested, someone should experiment with a worn, torn or damaged cover

before removing theirs and 'having a go' with ones they want to keep. That could end up being a

very costly experiment.
