What winter tyre wear

Featured Replies

I must admit I thought the winter tyres would have been off by now but thank god they are still on...

despite the claims by folk who don`t have them and they are of no use, they have got me home safely especially last weekend when I would have got stuck on the moors of Lancashire ....it is incredible how much of a difference they make!

Had a quick measure this morning and the fronts are down from 8mm when new , to just a smidge over 7mm

The rears are still near 8mm!!!

Remarkable in the fact that I have covered 5,000 miles since they were fitted in late October

All hail the Michelin Alpin!

Mine were the same. Hardly any wear at all. Very impressed. Although I took em off a bit early, but so fay no snow here. I can imagine me in 1 foot of snow swapping them soon. ;-(

Yep, I certainly don't find mine wear any quicker than summers. I'm almost tempted to just make them the default tyres on our cars all year around. Its not as if we get more than a couple of days of hot weather in england anyway. For those days I can just stay at home, or ride my bike ;)

I have run winters on my wife's car all year round, the wear isn't that bad and it's more wet than anything in this bloomin country so they are generally better anyway !

Whats the difference between 'Winter' tyres and 'All' season tyres, only on a site i was looking at the other day i saw these and 'Summer' tyres too...

The pattern will be slightly different, with the middle of the tyre more for stop and go in the snow and the sides more like a summer tyre for better cornering in the warm and dry. The compound will also be somewhere between the two, so its softer, but not too soft to use in hot weather.

Interestingly, though, the Vector all seasons still feature the proper snowflake symbol...

This is my 3rd winter on my Alpin A4's and i may even get another one out of them, they have about 3 mm left before they get to the upper limit mark (snow one i think)

well happy with them, they dont perform as well now as they did when new but still good

Another Alpin fan here (on a furby) so far seen 4 winters (2 previous owner). I've had them fitted for 18 months now. Fronts are getting low especially after my day with Don Palmer :) but skill no problem in the snow the other day.

Think ill be buying again :)
