Shock! Horror!

People are not going to believe this, but............................

I washed Dewi this morning, using 2 buckets, a splash of shampoo, and a micro-fibre cloth, then he got rinsed and leathered, and I managed to polish the bonnet, wings and roof with some Autoglym polish I found in the cupboard. Couldn't get the rest done as I had to come to work.

I might even get around to doing the rest of him sometime!

Lots of tiny black tar like spots, and some real tar, that will need dealing with on the sides, but I couldn't see any "blisters" like others have noted. Even got "black spot" on the tail gate, which is one area that does need attention, as I've got a small dent and scratch to one side of the badge; self inflicted!! Also a couple of stone chips on the bonnet that got touched-up.

SWMBO is now happy that Dewi looks respectable before we hook the caravan up next Friday for several days down in Tavistock and then near St Ives.

Visits planned to Morewellham Quay and the Launceston Steam Railway.

Tavistock? Anything seriously to do down there? :D Cornwall fair enough, but Tavistock?

OK - I don't believe it :peek:

It's convenient for both Morewellham and Launceston, and other things we want to see in the area, plus it has a nice small caravan site.

It'll do us!

OK - I don't believe it :peek:

I know, it isn't like me, is it?

But anything for a quiet life..................

:o Think I need to go and spend some time in a darkened room after reading that. Wash and polish well some of it :D .

Keep up the good work it may become a regular weekend thing  .

Stuck at work now, and it's dark.

You'll have to take my word for it!!

Or...

If you let me have your mobile number I'll go and take a photo in the dark and send it to you and you can post it here. :-}

Keeps you fit all that rubbing :strong:

EDIT. Hope Bob is not reading this, he will get the wrong idea.

I could have worded it better but never mind

Likewise also cleaned and polished the Monster, before she decided to feel unwell. Similar story lots of black 'tar' spots, some of which seem deeply embedded, particularly on the roof and they have so far proved impossible to shift.

However stone chip wise, she looks like she's been peppered with a shotgun. The Skoda touch up was no use, more like glup than paint so I tried a Chipex kit, which was quite expensive, and in all honesty I was hoping for better results than I got but at least it's not covered in dozens of blobs as would have been the case with the Skoda stuff.

Under artificial light the paints defiantly taken a hammering and could probably do with the services of a quality professional detailer, rather than my ham fisted efforts but at the end of the day, she'll end up back in a mess thanks to the rather broken and under maintained A166.

Good for you Graham.

Kitten and I are popping down to Dorset next Friday too, doubt we'll bump into each other as we're travelling in different directions, so consider this a virtual 'wave' as if we HAD passed each other. :hi:

:giggle:

Tim, Chipex tried myself on my last Toyota, was a complete waste of time,

Graham, instead of Autoglym Extra Gloss try Chemical Guys Jetseal 109, far better product.

Tony

Cleaned mine yesterday. Citrus pre wash first plus Tardis (gets rid of those nasty black tar spots), left it on for 5 mins. Then snow-foamed and left that to dwell for a bit more. Using a wash mitt, went over the car using the foam before jet-washing it all off.

Just waiting for a delivery of some Gtechniq polish to hopefully sort out the black plastics which the previous owner swirled up from going through car washes, I assume.

But for the tar - get something like Tardis - simply spray on, watch it dissolve the tar, and wipe away with a MF cloth.

Try leaving the Skoda Touch-Up standing in some warm water........much better then.

The local bod sells Autoglym, and there is no way I'm going to travel to buy anything else!! :giggle:

That's what I meant......a wash mit!!

Butter gets tar off, I'm told!!

Tried the warming but as soon as you take the paint out of the pot it very very quickly cools back to glup.

What are you doing washing, when it's not even Friday. You're going to ave folk talking. Eh! the tongues will be wagging.

Because I'm working nights until Wednesday, sleeping most of Thursday, then driving Friday.

You guys are giving me an inferiority complex with all your 'cleaning' knowledge. I've washed Willy John twice since buying him in January but have not delved into the black art of anythig more complicated. Would appreciate a live demonstation by Graham of 'how to do it' - gratis cup of tea waiting!!

As husband & I moved from Tavistock to Herefordshire just over 1 year ago , can vouch  that if it rains :rain: in Devon ( particularly Tavistock on Dartmoor) you wont have to worry about washing the car at all !!! Enjoy Cornwall , Mowellham and the Steam Railway at Launceston with Nigel & Kay ( with Alex"s help on occassions!! ) Hope it keeps sunny .... :sun: ( Hopefully -Yeti 4x4 owners soon)

One bucket with suds, one bucket with clean water.

Dip mitt in soapy stuff, wipe car,

Dip mitt in clean bucket and sploosh,

Dip mitt in soapy stuff and repeat!

Mind you I'm still not totally convinced it is any better than one bucket that never completely gets emptied, but will admit the wash mitt is better/easier than a sponge.

And get the wife to tell/show you how to polish. :giggle: :giggle:

I prefer Clarks pies as a bribe!!

I'm used to rain. I live in the middle of Wales! :giggle:

Funnily enough I was chatting to another signalman last night at work and he mentioned exactly the same names at Launceston, and I was told to mention him, and to tell them I was a "bobby".

Morwellham appear to have folk music on a Sunday so we shall probably go then. Must remember to take my song book with me.

Any recommendations for good food in Tavistock?

You missed the obligatory list of products used plus before & after pictures showing the transformation.

Come on Graham, you know better than that!
