You say new, is that brand new dealership new or second hand new.

It's just you said it's a tfsi which is the older engine, newer model is a tsi.

If its brand new anything that's wrong with it will surely be covered under warranty.

If it is a TSi then I believe they are all like it.

I had the same with my 1.8 TSi a couple of years ago and was told it was normal.

2 years and 100,000 miles later it was no worse.

I've recently bought a 12 plate VRS with the tsi engine and 7000 miles. It too has a tappety engine. I queried it with the dealer and was told they are all like it.

The car drives perfectly and the noise is not noticable from inside the car.

+1.

i had my service centre check it out about a yr ago now. they cleared it a normal, and "nothing to worry about".

its the injectors doing their magic.

its because its direct injection, makes it noisier

+1. DI can make engine sound a bit, well, clattery and not modern.

Perfectly normal as above.

My '05 Golf GTI, which had the same engine as yours, sounded just as you describe.

My TSI is similar, but quieter.

Enjoy your new car!
