Retrofit Hill Hold Control

Featured Replies

From the Drivers Manual for my March 2012 Octavia.

Uphill Start Assist*

The uphill start assist makes it easier to start off on steep hills. The system assists a start

off by holding the brake pressure produced by the brake pedal actuation for approx. 2

seconds after releasing the brake pedal. The driver can therefore move his foot from

the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal and start off on the slope, without having to

actuate the handbrake. The brake pressure drops gradually the more you operate the

accelerator pedal. If the vehicle does not start off within 2 seconds, it starts to roll back.

The uphill start assist is active as of a 5 % slope, if the driver door is closed. It is always

active on slopes when in forward or reverse start off. When driving downhill, it is

inactive.

The car must be fitted with an inclination sensor for the car to 'know' whether the car is on a 5%+ slope.  My car has an inclination (tilt) sensor for the alarm, so I assume it is dual purpose.

Stop on hill, select " N " hand brake on, foot off brake, when one requires to move select " D " , slight pressure on accelerator and release hand brake. Simples

    I've got 2 feet

  • hill hold probably can be enabled http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a6/hill-hold-disable-vw.htm folding mirrors are possible, finding cheap parts is the problem. new parts = £1200

I now have Hill Hold on my Vrs

Can this be done on a pre FL 6-speed DSG?

It already has ESP.

depends on what pump you have

I guess the only way to tell that is scan it with vcds or open the bonnet and check the part no?

According to VCDS, part no is 1K0 907 379 Q

This is the full scan for ABS:

No fault code found.

When I bought my Octy the rear brakes were binding, I thought I had hill hold for a couple of days!

I suppose you lot want a fully automatic car in the end, just jump in your personal conveyance, tell it where to go and voila.

We already have them...

They're called taxis! :-)

So can it be done just with coding? Or would the pump need to be changed?

If you don't have a HH pump, you need a new pump. I looked into this myself when I had an Octy 4x4.

My March 2012 MkII FL vRS TDi DSG definitely has Hill Hold.  I find it useful.  With my car a firm application of the footbrake is necessary to invoke the Hill Hold; if just light pressure is put on the brake pedal the Hill Hold is not activated.

So it seems the previous owner of my car had it modified to fit/enable Hill Hold.  Or was it an option on the vRS in 2011/2012?

You need to retrofit a suitable MK60EC1 module. It will involve rewiring/changing the ABS module connector and adding an extra power feed.

You'll also need to create a suitable long coding which will be specific to your VIN 👍
