Buying a CRD-T tuning box from DTUK

Featured Replies

Good morning. So here is my honest feedback so far:

4.2 setting - avg mpg from Fuelly 44 mpg - Feels more like driving my 1.8T Ibiza I had. I think I will eat too many sets of tyres in 1st and 2nd though.

2.2 Setting - avg mpg from Fuelly 43 mpg - This is my favorite setting so far. All gears just pull like a train and it is just a pleasure to drive. Not as aggressive as 4.2.

I have just filled up and will be changing to 3.2 today.

For me 2.3 was like 4.2 very aggressive and very responsive, the slight touch of pedal and car shot off

I've just moved to 2.2 after seeing your post above and it is. It isnt as aggressive and can feel the difference, it's a more relaxed drive with power, will leave it on here for a bit

Not tried 4.0 or 4.1 yet, but will do.

Did it give EGR or Turbo trouble??

Sorry guys, this is a reply to a previous post about super reliable Renault's. I hit reply instead of quote.

went for 4.3 in the end. Pulled great but then got an engine warning light. 34.7 MPG. Ouch!.

Well just about through my first tank now with a box fitted on setting 4.2 and whilst I am impressed by the extra punch the car has I am a little concerned re fuel consumption, whilst the average fuel computer is telling me I am now doing 49mpg (I averaged about 46 without) the fuel light is going to come on very very shortly after about 410 miles from a full tank when before the box I was getting 480-490 miles from full before the light came on. I appreciate the box might affect the accuracy of the trip computer but empty is empty!

I have used the extra performance a few times but my driving style hasn't changed that much. Is this drop of about 20% in economy typical of other users?

Using plus 2 is a high setting, plus 30+ degrees won't be helping the fuel economy either. My suggestion is to turn the box down

I will try 4.1 when i fill up. I dont think the heat is the issue as i have been driving an mx5 since it warmed up and only done about 30 miles in the VRS in the heat.

Extreme temps will affect things as the density of the air is reduced due to the higher temps, factor in that you're adding more fuel and the air/fuel ratio will be all over the place

Just filled the tank and it worked out at 42.5 mpg which isnt that much down on my only other brim to brim calculation of 45.5mpg. This was on setting 4.2 . Might be a drop due to the box or it could be conditions or driving. What i do know is the box has knocked the average mpg as shown on the trip computer right out of sync, not a major issue though!

Anyway changed the setting to 2.2 so will give it a try on that for a bit. I think 2.2 gives more or less the same extra boost but less fuel before the boost kicks in.

I ran 2.2 again last week and the drive was great but the MPG wasnt. 3.2 this week.

Well i have tried 2.2 today and to be honest i dont like it, no surge of torque as with 4.2 to be felt so i think i will try 4.1 for a bit. I was actually thinking to myself "have i plugged the box back in properly?" however when i checked I had.

I did notice on 2.2 that the mpg indicator on the car showed more or less what it would without the box fitted on my return journey to work. Could the trip computer be more accurate on 2.2 than 4.2  as 4.2 did knock the accuracy of the trip out by more than it actually affected the true mpg?

**********In fact hang on a minute just opened the box to change it and looked at the instructions and it appears I had been running 4.1 from the off, i had thought the box was set at 4.2 when it was fitted at DTUK's premises. This of course means I had actually been running 2.1 today which i didnt like.**********

It's simple, the further you turn the box up the more the box "bends" the readings being sent to the ECU - hence more power.

Get the box to a setting you are happy with (ignoring the dash MPG READOUT) and then do 2 or 3 tank fills with the box at that setting.

Record the MPG actual (using milage divided by gallons filled up with) and the MPG dash readout together for each tank and VCDS can then correct the MPG readout - simples. This is what I'm doing now, the more tanks you do the more data you can use to create an accurate average MPG error reading.

I am not that bothered about the accuracy of the computer but it would be nice to get it spot on. I haven't got vcds though boo hop

To be fair id not much care about the accuracy of my MFD if my car was punching 210hp and 300+ lb/ft torque with one of these on it.

Personally id run it on the highest setting it would run before bringing the EML light on, 4-2 sounds like the mosr appropriate setting to me to get the most out of the box, harder power delivery at low RPM is exactly what the CR lacks IMO

We have VAG-COM available here, which anyone is welcome to use if need be :)

A little late to the party!!

Having read through this post and speaking to Andrew@DTUK I decided to purchase one of these units for my manual vRS

The fitting took much longer than the advertised 15 minutes, but this was due to the very awkward position of the turbo sensor connector. The trick of using a bent wire coat hanger (and not the bra wire as suggested by Andrew!) definitely did the trick of releasing the connector, however the replacement proved equally difficult to reconnect. The CR connector was very easy to fit - plastic engine cover removed, then to the left of engine block.

Once connected and cover re-seated, time for road test, I have the unit set to 4-1 (as this seemed to be a favourite on here). To be honest I wasn't overly impressed with this setting I was expecting a little more acceleration, but this could be down to me having not driven the car for a week in 'normal' mode, not having anything on the road to compare it against and probably pushing it harder than I usually drive. That said the acceleration did feel quicker than the standard car, at one point I was wondering if somehow I had managed to alter the configuration of the speedo as I appeared to be going faster than the displayed speed - again, no other cars to compare against.

I will try with this configuration for a while and see how it compares to other traffic, I will no doubt try other configurations.

The advice and service provided by all at DTUK has been brilliant, the conversations felt much more than a sales pitch, it was car enthusiasts sharing their knowledge.

Looking forward to more pleasurable driving over the coming years, but not the prospect of having to remove all traces of the system when the car goes for its dealer paid for service.

I bought one of these too.... after reading this thread and chatting to Andrew. I have a manual VRS CR170

Easy to fit, but i have small hands and thin wrists! Only one skinned knuckle and took less than 10 mins.

Have run it on 4-1, 4-2 and now 2-2. I'm impressed and am not regretting it.

And for info I have come from a remapped Leon FR PD 170 with 195 - 200bhp. The Octavia now feels faster.

After feedback from an Audi 2.0 TDI and reading various logs from vag com we have updated the files were now adding to the 2.0 TDI kits

Does this mean I have to run my car in standard form   so the unit can be returned for re-programming?

Yep, but ill get it turned around in 24 hours for you :)

some more feedback from another member who wishes to remain anonymous

Hi Andrew just a wee message to say that i'm very impressed with my tuning box.

Anyway i set the box on 4-1 (i think) initially and was well impressed, still have it on the same setting after 750 miles and had no issues what so ever and the power is just unreal. 4th gear is just..WOW! I'd just like to thank you for the help, the discount and the very fast delivery.

If any one wants to pm me or anything with questions feel free to tell them they can. Also feel free to post this publicly as an anonymous review

Many Thanks again!

I still love mine!. 4.2 and the car is such a beast. Down side, 10k miles and I have done a pair of front tyres.....

I switched to 4.2 this week and I am not sure, maybe its a little too much. a slightly damp road and a bit of accelleration in 3rd sends the traction control into a fit.

I am going to give it a full tank on this setting then will probably end up back on 4.1
