pd engine or not ?

Featured Replies

hi guys im looking at upgrading my little fabia to an octavia but i want to run it on biodiesel and been told they have a pd engine and its no good for bio . but was told that not all have the pd engine so how would i know is there an easy way of checking cheers lads

If it's a mk 1, then if it's a 1.9 130bhp (TDi) or a 2.0l, then it's a PD. If it's any of a 1.9 SDi, a 90 (TDi) or a 110 (TDi) it's not a PD.

nice one ken just the answer i was looking for

I believe you need to be careful running the Octavias on bio diesel as they dont like it, Does depend on the quality of the bio diesel too.

I also know that its not good for them as the higher ethanol content in the Bio Diesel tends to eat pipes and seals...

reason why my mechanic uncle told me not to run on diesel with too much ethanol (clearer the look, the more ethanol)

trying to find a station with yellower diesel is... difficult.

Hey guys,

im running bio diesel on my 1.9 TDI ASV engine (Non PD), i normally put in quarter tank then top it with bio diesel. It hasnt given me any problems so far and runs the same with more money in my pocket.

It would be useful if you could mention how long you have had the car and how many miles you have driven in it using bio diesel.

The 110 non TDI (non-PD) will run on Straight Veg Oil (SVO) as well. I usually put in 5 litres with a full tank but sometimes a little more. I've heard of some people running nearly 100% SVO.

Literally a month now, so maybe not long as some. But 25diesel from pump and 40 bio diesel which gives it a full tank. So far done 145miles at 40.3mpg displaying 340miles left. Although at full tank was showing 385miles. Car has just been serviced and timing belt changed.
