Nankang V Vredestein *215 v 225 40 18s Also*

Featured Replies

I'm just about to get my spiders back from refurb and due to good reviews etc I'm going to be fitting maxxis tires £75 a corner :)

I have nankang ns2s on my spare 18s which are currently on my vrs and the road noise is terrible grip in the wet is poor. grip in the dry is I'd say its average ...

Have a look into the maxxis tires ... I was surprised

I am using Maxxis MA-Z1's after only ever using toyo T1R's and was really impressed with them,

Keep the reviews coming guys :) i don't have to buy for a couple of weeks so will be good to hear all reviews going!

Now another question for all you 18s owners, 215/40 or 225/40?

What's the difference? From what i can see 215s are same size as standard which is good. The ride on the 225s at the mo dare i say it may be better than standard!

So can anyone comment after using both sizes? As when i look at the 225s at the mo i do think that they maybe a little chunky, and with a 7.5 rim i don't need them as a 215 would still be more than enough!

Actually it looks like ive remembered that wrong! Just check the tyre sizes again and the 225/40/18 is the same as the standard 205/50/17 :|

I just stuck with the 205/50/17s as i only needed 2 tyres and i like to keep them all the same size. The 225's were a wee bit cheaper wen i priced them

Sorry just realised u were talking about 18's not the standard 17s

Jeremy Clarkson does tests too. Is he impartial?

So far, best tyres I have found were Goodyear Eagle F1's (albeit the most expensive tyres I have ever bought). Had them ages as I only do 2-3000 miles a year but they got eaten in a month when my tracking was knocked out.

Got Pirelli P Zero Nero now and they are ok but not as good. Avon ZZ3's on the back and they don't feel as good as the Cooper Sports I had before.

As people have said though, give them a go if you not fussed about high end performance. If they are rubbish, then just don't buy them again.

My dad has always said his best tyres were goodyear eagle F1s aswell!

The wheels i got came with Pirelli p zeros and they still have some life left in all of them but not much on 2, so im just trying to pick up a couple matching part worn to hopefully see me through the summer then i can save abit and get some decent tyres when these give up.

If they are legal get the 2 worat ones on the back after checking for damage. Take ot easy for a while to get a feel for them

They will last ages on the back. Tge car is easy on rears ne way.

As rule of thumb you always want the best tyres on the rear !

2 are on the wear bars so rather than use them and have to change them soon, rather just get some now and be done with it! Managed to get one for £20 so just need one more now!

And yeah i know your meant to have the better tyres on the rear but ive always switched front to back to try and wear evenly and best i can so sometimes means its not the case!

No you dont.

You alternate to wear even.

Lets not start this again.

For daily easy use so long as thery are legal it dunt matter.

Swapping tyres around is good practice and gets max life out of them.

If they are on the markers or cloae then yea get new ones.

Personnally I wouldnt riak part worns. Ide juat get some budgets on the front and use them if money is tight. Ide rather have a new matching pair than 2 uneven part worns. New you know that your getting. Part worns could of gone through god knows what.

Put new tyres on the back.

When the fronts reach the limit you want to go to (legally 1.6mm but in practice less than 3mm is bad), put the ones off the back onto the front and get some more new ones for the back.

Simple.

No tyre wears even when on same position so thats not getting full use of the tyre. Waste of money doing it that way imo.

I use 15 or 16" tyres on my cars and my tyres wear evenly across the tread so this works for me.

The rears should wear flat across the tread so when they go on the front they are fine.

Will get any part worn's tested before using and keep close eye on them.

I had planned on getting new all round but seems a waste to not use the life left in the 2 good ones.

Will only be for a few months. Would prefer matching all round rather than budgets on one end!

And as for where better tyres are meant to go then there are numerous opinions and advice out there, but mine is swapping around to try and get best even wear across all 4 so that's what i will continue to do :)
