Mk1 to mk2

Featured Replies

I won't be buying new either, so some of the oil / engine issues on the forum recently give a little concern, I hope to pick up a 62 plate

( budget around £14 k ) so remaining warranty will be important,

you can get a brand new one from the dealer for £14k.... With the VAT-free deal and some haggling, the new price can be got below 14k - I did for mine :) Although I did then add a few extras...!!!

I did not think new was an option as list I thought they came in over £17 k, well worth talking to a couple of dealers me thinks.

Anyone any idea what part exchange value I could be looking at for the mk1 vrs 2007/56 plate 60k on the clock, full history, timing belt changed @ 40k

no mods, good condition ?.

See some examples on Auto trader going for £5,500 > £6,500 @ main dealers so I was hoping £4k at least for mine part ex, realistic or dreaming ?

Any thoughts appreciated.

They are VAT free at the moment, so that's 20% off the price of the vehicle plus delivery. (it's not 20% off delivery)

Plus a bit more off if you can twist the dealers arm on top of the VAT free deal.

£4k for the part ex sounds reasonable, but you may not get that if you screw the deal down so much they make little out of the new one.

It's a business and they need to earn something somewhere.

I got 5250 for my mk1 vrs. 07 with 73k on the clock which I thought was a reasonable trade in.

I too have just made the switch from Mk1 to Mk2! I much prefer the looks, and engine of the Mk2 and how it drives but that's personal preference! I used to get 400miles to a tank of fuel in my Mk1 at a push, now getting 330 in the mk2 at a push so not that much down really! With regards to trade in my dealer gave me 5.1k for mine bearing in mind it was a 55plate but had 32k on the clock and it had been keyed down one side!!

I routinely "overfill" mine by depressing the switch just inside the filler and getting another gallon or so in there. Rarely get less than 400 miles and usually get around 450 miles out of the 11 gallons but I tend to do longer trips. Over 500 miles is possible but then that means you have not "enjoyed" car during that tankfull.

Zing against old Mk1 Octy VRS, quite close, liking the car now on variable and can fill it with 50 litres or so from empty.

Had a few blow offs (felt like I was 18 again)

You what?! Bet that made a mess of the interior...... ;-)

The difference in mpg is only really that noticeable at higher annual mileages I reckon.

I've had a mk I fab vRS and can confirm the mk2 is far superior. Yes the old TDI has that all-or-nothing slug of low down torque but the mk2 pulls like a train right the way through the rev range. The power delivery is very linear but being on-boost at all times can also be quite fun ;-). The fact it doesn't sound like a tractor/taxi is also a bonus.

Ha ha

You have to drive one

I bought my Mk 1 after driving my pals, he drove my mk2 and is now looking for an estate

My only negative points so far after 5 days of ownership is pulling off anything other than miss daisy mode I chirp the tyres

and I dont fully understand the mechanics of it all, but surely there was a focus group that discussed it and they agreed

"yeah the supercharger must kick in in reverse!"

In reality I know im less than a week in but I went out in my lunch today for a tootle round I enjoy driving it so much

Agreed - sometimes gets embarrasing but rarely boring!

 ..and it does!

I know now !

  • 1 year later...

I've managed around 365 miles (last 3 fill ups) for just under 70 quid fill up with Tesco 99. I usually average 35/36 mpg to work 14 mile round trip. Giving it a bit of welly, then usually Around 32 mpg. I did 30 miles up the motorway couple weeks back and averaged 41 mpg (according to maxidot)

When I floor it pulling off, if I ease of accelerator for split second then back down, it usually settles down. Failing that, I turn off traction control and have no real issues.

My mate has brand new Focus ST and that's ridiculous. Even with traction turned off, it still locks up.

Holy thread revival. Batman ;) !
