Silence the seat belt bleep VCDS

Featured Replies

As this is car specific (Superb II Combi 170bps DSG) I've started this here (before anyone yells...) as I want to turn off the car seat belt warning bleeper (but keep the dash warning light) through VCDS.

On the VCDS forum, is this:

How do I silence the seatbelt(s) warning bong? (CANBUS cars with longcoding)

go to 09 - Cent. Elect and click on “Coding - 07

BUT that code when you get there in VCDS doesn't mention seat belts, and even if relevant (I realise though it was entirely meant to be helpful) it doesn't say how to change the long code or what else to do when you're at Coding-07 to alter the bongs. Coding-07 contains three codes - which one is applicable...or what do I need to recode without popping the system? I need instructions an idiot (me/mirror) would understand!

Anyone done this? BTW, the alternative of unplugging the cable under the seat does pose a safety risk as it is linked to the airbag/belt tightening system in case of an accident.

The reason is that I spent long period waiting for teenage children to emerge from cadets, guides, bar work...and because I want the heater on (winter) or the aircon (summer) I want the engine to run...but not the annoying bleep noise! The TV is great - but not if I'm shivering or boiling!

Thanks, David.

Why not just keep your belt on?

It should not bleep when you are not moving. It doesn't on mine.

The coding to turn off the chime will also turn off the warning light (you can't have the warning light only, but not the chime). But as above, the chime should only make a noise after you go above 12 mph. If you've stopped with engine on and seatbelt off, it should be quiet. Possibly a fault if yours is doing something different?

While I always wear a seatbelt on the road, I found the chime really distracting when manouvering a tight car park I often use, requiring lots of leaning forward and turning around. Got mine turned off for this reason.

Anyway, I'd think the steps for disabling this are the same as the Octavia II (since both are based on the same platform). In which case, it's coded in the instrument cluster.

Instruments > Coding

Then adjust the existing code as per the article here:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Skoda_Octavia_(1Z)_Instrument_Cluster#Coding

So, if the current code is "00??x0x", take the number at ??, deduct 2 and then re-enter the new code.

Hope that makes sense :)

Thanks will try that...just picked my son up. Def chimes when stationary. Manf Jan 13...a model or legal change? Or a fault? You're right though...now I know why it didn't annoy me in my last car...because it didn't do it. VCDS tomorrow, thanks.

I have just disconnected mine at the belt anchorage, belt tension er still will work

It's only there so they get an extra tick in the safety eurocap rating and as Clarkson said to remind Americans that they are in a car
