Top boost pipe replacement DIY :)

Has anyone else got a forge fmic and changed their top boost pipe to connect upto it?

 

I have just replaced my plastic top boost pipe with a 51mm od 45° aluminium pipe with 150mm legs and swaged ends to match upto my forge fmic. When I connected the 45° silicone hose from the top boost pipe to the aluminium bend with the MAP sensor attached to it and the 90° silicone bend on the other side, I had to clamp them on at full stretch (with minimum hose clamped on). I am not really happy with it and would like to sort it out as I feel they will pop off in the future. I've not heard anyone else with this problem and setup with the materials you can buy off ebay so have I done anything wrong?

 

I'll have to try and find a longer top boost pipe if not.

I think it would be important to have a ribbed end on the metal pipe to prevent the silicone slipping off. failing this use a glue or sealant?

Need to get round to doing mine at some point just don't want to go ordering the wrong parts for the job!

Im with you on this one mate .

I have list of bits to do the top hose , but need a list/links for the bottom hose .

My boost leak is driving me insane .

If anyone could help , that would be awesome .

I think I'm just going to buy the bits from e-bay and see if they fit, if not make them fit with a bit of creative engineering lol. It's mainly the ss pipe that was causing issues for one guy iirc as it wasn't quite long enough or something. 

 

My bottom one is actually worse than my top  one, leaking from the IC point and seems a bit weepy near the turbo too. I'll probably leave the top one alone for now unless it starts to leak once I've done the bottom lol.

I will one day.

The plan is to replace the tight angled pipe with a larger inner diameter hose that goes OVER the intercooler inlet and OVER the metal pipe.

The only issues I might face is getting the correct diameters with the correct angle and if that doesn't work, goodbye metal pipe?

60mm clip side outside diameter (o.d) male coupling, suitable for a 51mm internal diameter (i.d) hose.

1x type d coupler

64mm clip side outside diameter (o.d) male coupling, suitable for a 61mm internal diameter (i.d) hose.

Not for the top boost pipe no, it's not needed. If you wanted to do it 100% you can remove the bumper and remove the headlight, not worth it IMO though, you only need to remove the one spring clip on the top of the intercooler and your off.

Yeah you should be fine, if you have a long flat head screwdriver you should be able to pull the securing clip back and pull the pipe out the intercooler.

Careful not to drop anything inside while trial fitted though.

All these posts look great, just wish I had the technical ability to make these!

Mine really need sorting now as it appears I have a boost leak and can see oil smearing around the top of one pipe. I just don't want to spend stupid amounts of money on Forge pipework. Awesome GTI do a kit, but can't come to terms spending £225.

Can anyone recommend to sort this in the North of England?

Seriously mate. Just order what is listed on the first page, it's very easy to do took about half hour ish to do maybe more. It only comes to about 60-70 pound

I need to do this too, but a lot of the original links appear to be broken now. Too old.
