Top boost pipe replacement DIY :)

Featured Replies

Fitted mine yesterday. Noticed more smoke out the exhaust but then had the pipe blow off the coupler at the intercooler. Need to double up my jubilee clips but noticed my 45 degree pipe from the intercooler seems to be under a bit of pressure and bending a little more than natural. How do i solve this??

  • All made up ready and will be installed moz morning

  • I think it would be important to have a ribbed end on the metal pipe to prevent the silicone slipping off. failing this use a glue or sealant?

  • Yes thats exactly it as I have an egr delete so didn't need the type 'b' coupler, think the 90º bend was 51-57mm? Will have to double check.

Deffinatly would recommend doubling the jubilees up not so bad on the couplers as they have the bead around but on the stainless pipe I've doubled both ends up, and maybe try cutting a bit more off the 45 bend mate not to much that you leave yourself short though its a case of taking it off bit by bit, not taking enough off meens the pipe is pushing out over on itself if you get me :/ haha

Cheers.

I haven't had any trouble so far with the metal bar, just the 45 degree silicone pipe coming off the coupler and bending a little more than normal in the middle.

Will double up the clips on the coupler and hope for the best.

Can someone do me a big favour and measure the leg length from the 75 degree bend to the 45 degree bend and also the leg length after the 45 degree bend?

And is the 45 degree silicone bend at right angles to the metal pipe?

Thanks

Can't help with the measuring at the mo,but the coupler fits into the 45 degree silicone at 90 degrees if that's what you mean??

Yes thanks i was trying to measure up for a diy full metal pipe but i have had one made up now.

Cheers mate., managed to find an email address off Ebay and they replied straight away- picking my pipe up later today, asked them to change the od of one end too.

So if anyone else wants anything from them, I'd suggest emailing them or phone them.

I am a idiot.

That is all.

Nothing to see here...

Hi carlvrs, is your fabia a asv engine code or a Blt?

I brought the exact same as you lister and put the type a coupler which is the 60mm (o,d) 51mm (I,d) and put it in the smic and all other pipes/coupler where they should be and now I have a leak between the smic and the coupler that sits in it. It's not from the silicon pipe joining, it's defiantly from in-between the joints? Don't suppose you have any idea?

You might need new o ring seal, what condition was old one in when you swapped it onto new coupler?

Well there's my problem lol! Don't think I put it in?! Think it's still attached to the old boost pipe. Thanks for your help!

If they are shot are the easy to get from a Skoda dealer?

Yeah can get them from any vag dealer i think just need to know the size. They do take alot of hammer before they go though. Just clean it up look for any wear, i think you prob find it will be ok.

Did you swap the o ring over?

Thanks for the reply guys but I was a useless **** not putting them on!! Not very mechanically modes lol, but put them on this morning they looked fine and worked a treat!

Thanks

Glad you got it sorted nick I should probably mention in the original post to take the O rings off :)

I've no idea if my O ring is still on or not. :D

Oh well, it can wait a few weeks until i'm next at home.

This is brilliant but could I just double check that it is the Type A coupler - 60mm clip side outer diameter suitable for 51mm internal diameter hose.

That is used to connect to the intercooler. It was mentioned its the type D connector with the 64mm outside for a 61mm ID hose, but I dont understand how this can be as the 45 degree bend is 51mm hose?

Going to try and replace the bottom hose as well so need 2 of these.

Thanks

The type A is the correct one for the connection to the top of the intercooler mate

That great thanks for replying, can I assume the bottom one is the same size?

Has anyone got a replacement for the hose leading from the turbo yet?

I've ordered mine just need the type a coupler thingy. But I am going to swage the pipes so they don't pop off and use mikalor clamps instead. Cost me up to yet £40 delivered.

A massive credit to the idea and the write up about this.

Ant

What size clamps are people using for this?

has anyone had any problem with the coupler ?, to me it could do with a bit more room for the jubilee clip ?, i think part of the problem is the really bad quality hose i've bought, really soft stuff

Would this setup be ok to run with a GTB turbo?

Eg. Quite a bit more boost?

I don't want any hoses popping off.

My pipe should be ready this week all in one aluminium with connector welded. I have been runnin the prototype and only problem i have had is the gasket on the egr delete.
