Shell Vpower Diesel

Featured Replies

Hey again all, just treated myself to a tank of vpower diesel (better than half petrol haha)

seems to be quiet noticeable, does anyone else run vpower? and do they notice the difference , or is it just placebo effect lol

The only thing I notice, is the car is a little lighter............. in my back pocket!

But it might depend on what fuel fuel you normally put in it anyway. There might be a bigger difference in comparing Supermarket diesel vs VPD, rather than Shell Fuel save vs VPD

it works out around £5 more for a full tank so I don't think your pocket will be that much lighter lol, it's been proven to protect and clean your engine so why wouldn't you use it?

I use Millers additive which does a similar thing, plus it works out cheaper per tankful too.

I ran V power for 2000 miles last year as an experiment.

Average MPG went down slightly on V power with no noticeable power gain. Although it definitely burns cleaner and is a bit less smoky, on balance I came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the price, Especially considering shell fuel save diesel seems quite a good fuel anyway.

For me that's over £300 a year, that will pay for an extra 3,100 miles of commuting on the bike or in VRS terms something like 2,500 miles. I suppose if you don't do the mileage to justify a diesel then yea, you'll not notice.

Well my weekly miles to work is around 350, and then if I travel to my girlfriends for the weekend that's and extra 250, precisely why I bought the diesel in the first place. I just don't see why if there is a better than standard product to run your car on why you wouldn't use it other than basically, your tight. Just my opinion thow I guess.

I'm so pleased that quite a few drivers choose to run their cars on these over priced higher margin fuels, it bolsters the fuel companies profits and helps keep the standard and adequate product for mass produced road cars at a lower price

Regards all

180k miles with 90% fill ups being Supermarket fuel and the only mechanical issues being radiator and steering rack which have precisely zip to do with fuel = why would I use it?

looks like shell should re-name v power as Marmite

holmesie,

i've notice a difference in mpg per tank fill of v-power to supermarket fuel and yes to me its worth the extra couple of pence per refill and i notice less smoke out of the rear too. happy motoring.

lol you dont have to convince me i wont run my bike on anything else unless im desperate .... and the vouchers they are giving out at the mo for 10p off which makes it 2p per litre cheaper than their standard fuels makes it a no brainer

I love the way you assume that anyone who doesn't do as you do can't afford to, it actually made me smile. I'll happily pay a premium for better fuel when an engine is set up to benefit from it, my last car ran exclusively on vpower petrol because in stock form it was advised, with the remap/intake/IC/exhaust upgrades it was essential, its the same with my last two sports bikes, by the time i'd finished the first would backfire if it ran 95RON (low resistance exhaust system), the second was mapped on 98/9RON using a PC3 with full 1 off Micron race system. Your PD130 probably isn't.

How can I make such a claim? Well I tested vpower diesel back to back for a month (over 2,000 miles) with each successive engine, that's everything from a stock PD100, mapped PD100, PD130 and PD140. The only difference in the data was the bill at the end of the month, everything else was within expected variation. Did vpower burn slightly cleaner? Possibly, did it give me any other benefits? No.

Use what you like, if some bloke can sell $15 novelty golf ball detectors for £30k a go the world is obviously full of people who are easily parted with money, but until I can find a performance advantage from a premium diesel fuel I won't be paying over the odds for it. If that makes me tight in your eyes then I'll take that, but I'd rather someone else think I'm tight than know I was gullible :)

Have to agree after running several vans on V power only the rest on supermarket dieselonly real difference was the extra price per gallon IMHO Vpower is more of a Placebo effect to many.

I dunno guys, I really do feel a difference with v power, even compared to regular shell. I fill up the vrs maybe once a month when I do get a chance to drive it after the wife has filled with fuel save.

A couple miles or a few days after I've filled up I can notice the difference in torque and throttle response, it's definitely not a placebo because i often get a nice surprise when I put the foot down and then remember why it's a little more pokey. Not done a test to see if I get more to a tank but I'm not really interested in that as I only cover 10k a year.

I'm with Boss Fox on this one. Always use V Power in both my petrol Octy VRS and also in the wife's Diesel Furby VRS. Have I noticed any performance gains ? Hard to tell maybe the placebo effect. However I have noticed none of the common faults that are often associated with the cars we own. Boost issues, limp mode, and engine warning lights. Our cars are always serviced to manufactures spec using genuine VAG parts. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

Placebo for performance I find! but it makes mine idle a lot smoother and generally smoother whilst driving but I wouldn't only use it especially when its near 1.50 a litre

mine has had vpower since i bought it 6 month ago builds up points quicker on my shell card lol

Get a rewards card and you get money off and other deals which make up for the extra cost. I get nothing else!

Thanks to a lego obsessed small child I'm back buying V Power in 30 quid lumps, with the extra points etc it's only about 3% more expensive and there's never a queue at the local station for the premium pump.

Don't think it's made any difference to mpg but it can't hurt the engine, the lego cars are ace as well!

In Northern Ireland we don't have shell v power, but have BP ultimate. I always run my car on it and seems to run better

Haha the little cars look brilliant!
