Ok, so Blufabi got a puncture :( I need a new tyre. Thinking I'm going to replace both back tyres. I have continentals on the front, but not sure what to replace the backs with. I can go all out and get the Continentals on the back for £103 each, or I can go cheaper with the Kumho or Falkens. The Kumho is cheaper by about £2 a tyre, but the Falkens get better scores for fuel economy, noise and performance in the wet.

Do we have any tyre pros who can offer some advice? Looking to order them later tonight or tomorrow as I have my steelie on at the moment!

This is the link to what I searched...

Thanks!

I would look at tyre reviews, http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyres_For/Skoda/Fabia-vRS.htm

look for a tyre with a reasonable number of miles on it and see what people say, on that list for your car i'd go with the Rainsport 2's i know a lot of people rave about them my father had them on his Yeti and they were fantastic on there.

They're about £90 each fitted on Black circles.

I like both kumho's and falkens!

Not much difference between the pair! I go for whatever looks the best! Falkens look nicer than the solus so id go them!

Just as good as continentals imo

Every review has XXXXX number of miles driven on the tyres before the review was written, thats a cumulative total of the miles of all the reviews for that particular tyre.

Makes sense. Hmm, ok. I will consider the Rainsports then. Do you think they'd be better than those other two - Kumho and Falken?

No they are all much of a muchness!

Those tyre review sites are rubbish - wouldn't waste my time reading reviews! If you pick a decent branded tyre you'll be fine

Aslong as you avoid chinese cheapo tyre's you will be fine!

Toyo's / yoko's / kumho's / falkens are all good tyres! Never needed anything more

:)

They are only for the back, and I don't go mad or anything when driving, but equally I don't want cr4p tyres! Like to be safe :)

+1 here for the RS2's, fitted 4 three weeks ago now, grip in the wet is immense, dry grip also very good.

They were ~67 per corner delivered from Camskill. Next day. Fitted at a reputable indy for £8/ corner

I always find kuhmos wear really quickly, I'm a falken fan myself

Budgets all the way. Unless you're doing track days every week and want a perfectly silent car, (you own a diesel!) stick budgets on it. You cannot buy a rubbish/dangerous tyre these days. Plus, with the state of our roads there is no way I would spend out on a tyre that from the word go was living on borrowed time. Just my opinion.

Ignore this post

Totally rubbish information!

Budget tyre's are dangerous especially in this countries climates

Budget tyres are for work vans, elderly people with 700cc cars, chavs who like wheelspins at mcdonalds and people who have no idea about cars!

Tyres are the most important part on a car! Its the only contact with the road!

Some budgets i've had on alloys i've bought are lethal!

Cannot remember what we had on our Fabia VRS but Contis or Barums would be good I would have thought.

Barums is owned by Continental and I have used them on an Octavia diesel and thought they were very good.

Only use Michelins on the Fabia Mk 2 VRS and Octavia TSI VRS as they seem to be the only ones I have tried that do not melt on the front.

Good enough for Skoda Motorsport, Audi prototype racing WEC etc, even the Germans choose French tyres.

Barums are very underrated and are a good tyre, due to my falkens being directional I have one as a spare, and my brother in law got them on his jag and is impressed with them

Loz, what made you arrive at the three makes you've listed?

Like Lol, I'm a Michelin convert. Had them on various cars over the years, but never actually bought any 'til this year. Now got them on the Superb and my Wife's '97 Mk3 Golf. Don't think I'll put anything else on from now on.

I have conti on the front and barums on the back at the moment.

Came to those three because I like conti and have used them mostly in this car, the falkens and kumhos were the two cheap ones where I'd heard of the make/don't recall hearing anything particularly bad about them.

I'd have Michelin quite happily, but at £124 per corner I'm not willing to do it for back tyres lol.

Can't find any Barum on the sites I went on, unless anyone knows somewhere?

I've never tried Kuhmo's but I do like the Falkens. Had some 453's put on the back and they performed well this weekend :-)

But the RS2's a good choice too.

Depends on how much you want to spend.

Well obviously the less I have to spend the better. I can buy contis if that's the actual best option, but not being overly knowledgeable on tyres I thought if ask if I'd be ok with a cheaper one

Any branded decent tyre will be more than suitable!

Buy the cheapest branded tyre! No need to shell out loads!

I go for toyo's / falkens / kumho's whatevers cheapest! Cant go wrong with them and i drive like a complete looney tune so they will work brilliantly for you :)

National are known for doing Barums and sometime doi offers like BOGOF or buy one get one half price so mega bargins.

Michelins are often best bought from ATS as Michelin own ATS so usually do the best deals and have best availability, was paying less than £125 for 225/40-18s ZR with nitrogen filling.

Are national ok then? Know what they are doing etc?

Found one on speed rating w, is that ok?

My brother in law paid under £450 for 4 18" Barums from national tyres

There's an advert on the website saying BOGOF on barum but then when you go on them they aren't :/
